Whoops  actually the disk im looking for is called the optical shutter. Heres a picture of it setup on a different distributor
Image

Heres how I understand it: The optical trigger (black box on the left) has an LED and a receptor on the other side. When the receptor picks up the LED's light, the ignition coil will fire and the cap and rotor will send it to the right place. Instead of point opening and closing its on and off with the light.

Pulled over in someones driveway since I was experiencing a weird issue. Decided to make sure the rotor was secure by pushing down on it and then I heard the snap . No idea why I decided my ignition system which has never given me a problem was the cause but im pretty positive it was something I did when I pulled the float bowl off the holley.

Call Vinny Bedini and ask if he has one laying around; 860.355.182nine. Your chances are not good, since these are kits which work together. You might have to buy a whole new conversion kit just to get the shutter. They're not horribly expensive tho.

If worse comes to worse, you can make your own. I know race drivers often cut these to allow more light exposure (= longer spark), so you should be able to fashion one out of a plastic cheeZe can top or something. Use the broken piece as a template.

I think Ill have to buy an "installation kit" from crane which comes with a bunch of disks (but I think only one works for my car) or another used setup (which will give me two backups )

Are you interested in buying a complete used setup....including a distributor? I have one but I don't want to part it out.

It seems that might be the way to go. Either have spare disks that I could never use or have a spare XR700 that might come in handy.

Or, you could find a ZX Dizzy, just a thought. I too have a complete Pertronix set up, but has to go complete.

Right. I carry a spare Pertronix kit in my car, in case mine dies away from home. But like my fire extinguisher, it's not for sale.
