Adam, sounds like you need to get your girls into working on the Z :)

Frank, good suggestions on the wheels. Didn't even think that would be an issue. I have plenty of clear coat sitting around so can use that if it becomes an issue.

I got outside today and was able to clean the wheels up a little. What I thought were American Racing wheels (because of the center caps i have) are actually Appliance Wheels. They have the word Japan on the back. With a little digging on the interwebz I believe these are Appliance brand. I guess they were a wheel company manufacturing wheels in California and then ended up moving production to Japan.

Here are some pics.

New tires still have little knobs on them..

On the inside what makes me believe these are Appliance Wheels..

I was wrong about the wheels do not have any curb rash. One wheel has a couples pots that look like they have been fixed slightly.

They look sweet, nicely done Adam!

Let me know your schedule and I'll try and swing by this week and pick them up. If not it will have to be after next week as I'm away again.

I have concluded that there is a difference in the quality of aluminum used in rims. These rims appear to be cast aluminum. They may look real good on a Z, but after seeing how after time and use they can warp to unfixable status, these are now not my favorite rim.....unless they are a better quality, but all I see is what looks like cast aluminum. The ones I just put on my car, 15 x 8's are a higher quality, possibly forged aluminum, or an alloy. Something to look for in rims, just saying.

By the way Scott, just so you know, you're getting a set of wheels on which the center caps push thru from the rear. I can tell that because we don't see 4 little screw holes btwn the 4 lug holes in the center of the wheel.

The wheels which have the screw-on caps have a series of problems with them. (1) people steal them (2) the caps break easily if you hit something (3) the tiny screws can disappear while driving (4) the screws can break off inside the wheel (5) over tightening the screws can easily crack the plastic feet of the center caps (5) the screws can't be purchased on their own.

So just be aware that (a) there are two types of center caps for 5-slot mags, and (b) you're buying the better type.

Well done sir! For a new-Z owner, you're already pretty smart!

Frank is correct. You can see the step on the back side of the wheel that gives space for the lip on the center cap. Glad to see that these wheels will get some use.

Looking forward to getting the new shoes on the car. To be honest I wasn't aware of all the issues with the other style of rims. I just did a bit of research and learned to look for the ones with the ridge or lip for the center caps. Glad it was right.

Thanks for shinning them up Adam, they look sweet and I'll be sure to post some pictures of them on the car. They are replacing a set of original steel wheels which will give her that true "Z" look I remembered from when I was a kid.

Scott,
One more thing. These wheels do not use a 60° tapered lug nut that most wheels use. They use a straight extended type with washers. I have a set somewhere but for the life of me I can't find them!! I was looking for them before ZCON because I have a slotted wheel as my spare and the lugs on my wheels will not work. So lets just say that my spare tire is just for show because if I get a flat I am out of luck.

This is the type you need to get.

And you can buy 16 of them at Advance Auto for about $30. But if your spare is a "steelie" you should also carry 4 regular tapered lug nuts with you.
Glad you remembered that, Adam.

So Scott stopped by today and picked up the wheels. At the same time we realized the center caps that I had were the wrong ones. I am a little disappointed that I wasn't able to get a complete set for him. I started to look on ebay for Appliance Wheels center caps. I think I may have found a brandnew set but I am unsure the ID size of the hole for the caps.

Scott Check out the size of the holes to se if these are correct.

Then you could get the emblem set from MSA..

Thanks again Adam, I'll check these out and see if they will fit.
