Hi all,

I think its safe to say that I'm close on closing a deal on a 280z. The car is still a ways away though, about 7 hours. I don't know if I'm okay with doing that on the first day of ownership, so what do you guys recommend I use to transport it? I want to go get it myself, so I can do a hand to hand transaction. Basically I think I would need to get a box truck or a flatbed, or maybe a dolly would work. I'm not sure. The car does run and drive if that matters.

Thanks!

Tow dollies are technically out of the question if the car isn't registered. I've done it with an unregistered car, but it was only around town.

Uhaul does rent car trailers. 7 hours away, would you go out and back in the same day? 24hr rental was something like $200 or a little more back when I trailered my MR2 out to Pocono for the weekend.

Do you have a truck you can tow with?

Sorry for the late response guys..i must have double refreshed and didn't see your comments.

Brotus, yea the dolly scared me, simply because its a RWD.

Yea, I plan to do it in the same day..I'm trying to work out with the seller meeting up at a half way point.

I have not actually heard of the rentable car trailers. Do you mean flatbed?

And no, unfortunately I don't own a truck or flatbed.

As do I Justin, as do I.

Felipe,

Why don't you PM Rick Morgan and see if you could persuade him to pick up your car with his enclosed trailer for a monetary donation to be agreed upon.

Just bring a set of registered plates and drive it back. Depending on your laws, most states you are allowed to drive 48 hours with registerd plates, to you, and the bill of sale. You are buying a driveable Z I presume, don't be afraid, trust the Z force.

Yea, something like that. If your feet don't go through the floor board, you'll be ok. :D

Thanks guys. I may just have to go out there with my pops if I can't strike a deal with Rick Morgan. Uhaul/Penske want close to/upwards of 400 bucks for a truck&trailer!

See if you can throw in a few extra bucks to have the seller meet you somewhere a little closer for you (even getting the owner to drive 1 hour from his house gives you 2 hours in time savings). This gives you two benefits:

1) Less driving time for you and whoever is traveling with you.
2) Lets you know for sure the car is road worthy (i.e. doesn't explode after driving for 15 minutes).

Just make absolutely sure that he brings everything that he needs. Give him a list of all the papers and things that you need to be extra clear.

Really good point Justin. I actually just got notice that he's willing to drive it to a place that would only be 3.5 hours away...at no extra cost. I just have to make a deposit, and if I don't show or don't buy the car, he takes the gas$$ out of the deposit, and gives the rest back.

That's not bad at all. It's on the PA border.
