As long as it is very clean with under 150k miles on it, and it's from a 280Z head N42/N47/P79, and is marked with an "A" in the rear casting face. (all 280Z's should have "A" cams). A very early E31 "A" cam from an early 240Z will work also.

Thanks!!

Turns out that my spare cam had a crack all the way around the dowel pin!!

Vinny Bedini's shop has several doZen cams on the shelf. Call him at 860.355.1829. (Be $ure to tell him you're a Club member).

Also, there's a late 1971 240Z with intact cam at Chick's junkyard in Wallingford, if you're willing to remove it yrslf.

I called on Joe and Clive for this too. I am kind of in a rush now because I was all set to drop the motor in today when I discovered the flaw in the cam. It's kind of like "man in motion" now. Joe thinks he has one in his attic and is going to confirm ASAP. If he has one, I'm going to take a late night drive to NJ. If not, I'll call on Vinny tomorrow. THANKS.

I'm sure you know this already, but if you're swapping in a different cam, you need to swap the whole set of rocker arms as well, maybe even the lash pads and springs. Especially if it's a used cam from someone's car. Also make sure those are kept in order on the cylinders they came from. Otherwise the wear pattern could be off and it might gouge up the lobes on the swapped cam.

That cam has surface rust on it if I remember right. It should be cleanable. Just a heads up

Right Phrog ~ it is NOT drop-in ready. I tried to post a picture of it along with my message, but it wouldn't come out of my library for some reason.

(Maybe it was rusted in!)

I spoke with Vinny earlier today ~ he confirmed he has several L28 "A" cams available. He quoted very nice prices for Club members.

Guys I appreciate all the help!! What an invalauble group this is. I spoke to Mike and he has an entire L28e motor that he offered to me. Now, I don't need, or have a means to transport, the whole motor but I am going to try to get together with Mike tomorrow to extract the cam/towers/rockers from his motor.

The "A" cams came in two flavors, internal and externally oiled. Most of the 280Z's and a few N/A ZX's came with "A" cams. Apparently, the A profile has the most lift of the stock cams, and will give the wheezy turbo motor another 500 rpms or so of top end power. I should also gain some mid range power. The stock turbo cam really runs out of steam quickly after 5000 rpms.
