With my fresh race engine back from the builder I nearly had the car finished today.....but I overtightned the water temp gauge probe at the thermostat housing and it broke. Time is tight as I'm to haul to Virginia for a race on Weds. Fellow Z racer is to bring one to the track in case I can't come up with one local. I'd prefer to have this sorted out before leaving town.

There are several different styles of thermostat housing, and I have more than one kind here. Do you have a picture of the one you broke?

Hey Steve ~ is this the same Rebello block you ate at LRP last summer?

I think you were running an L28 at that time? I have a housing and temp sending unit from a 1971 L24, but like Mark says, they differ from year to year.

Specifically, which unit and year do you need? Many of us have spare partz on hand, everybody in here wants to zee you succeed, and nearly everyone has tmrw off (unless they're in uniform), so let's get this going.

Frank

Mark and Frank, thanks for the replies. Yes this is the L28 with the 3-piece camshaft from LRP last year. Had the engine completely gone through by Carlquist Competition Engines in Oakville. Great guys, very happy with their work. It had been built by Rebello back in 2002 but others were into this engine prior. Cam was in a bind, warped head, etc etc. All sorted now. Also did a gearbox upgrade.

Photo of thermostat housing attached. Using JB Weld and plug in the housing for now. Prefer to make use of water temp gauge probe.

Thanks guys.

Well the only important difference I see between the housings is that the later housings have more sensors in them. I have at least four housings here and most of them have more sensors in them than you need but of course they will still work for what you need, just don't use the extra sensors. In my mind the only problem you face is in getting out here to Hebron to pick one up. You can call me at 860-228-2818 or 860-690-2759 and leave messages if I don't answer. My partner has plans for today but I can just leave a housing out on the porch if I won't be here.

I have from 75- 83 styles, the older ones should have fewer sensors. I'm in RI if that helps.

If one has provision for more sensors than needed, but the bolt
pattern is the same, could the unneeded holes/ports not be plugged?

Just asking....................Rick (and Kathy, of course)

Thanks again for all the replies. You guys are great. I've got a thermostat housing sorted out. Fired up the fresh engine in the car this afternoon, sounds great but now I have what appears to be gearbox issues. Engine stalls when I engage clutch in gear. In neutral position car won't roll unless clutch is depressed. Dropping exhaust and trans next to have a look at the Tilton assy. Loading car for VIR tommorow? Oh the joys of vintage racing.
