Finally got the replacement gas tank, sanded, primed, painted and installed in my Z this weekend and took her for the first ride of the season! Got home and looked under the car only to find the tank leaks. Anyone out there know a good source for a replacement tank?

OH NOOOOOO!

Is this never gonna END?

Brother Phil, I'm so sorry you're having all this hassle with your beloved ZX. But hey, in another year you'll be able to look back at this and laugh about it.

And you might have it all paid off by then!

What years of ZX tanks will fit yours? Remember, Paul is holding the Club Parts ZX Car and it has lots of usable stuff on it.

79 through 83 will do Frank. If I remember right, MarkC was parting out a 280zx also. I might end up ordering a refurbished tank from Zparts.com and get it over with. They're a little pricey though and I don't have a good core to send them either....

I hope Keith doesn't mind a few gas drips in the Marina parking lot. I'll bring a catch can.

Good point Frank, hadn't thought about that potential issue. It only leaked when I drove it. I have less then a half tank of gas and have to burn it off somehow.

Hay Phil,
Will the tank off of #13 fit? I read somewhere that it’s being parted out.

Thanks for the suggestion Mike, but I understand that Kathy has already used #13's gas tank for a flower box out by their mailbox.

Thats terrible. Nothing worse than doing the job twice. Phil did you try to add air to the old tank to get it back into shape ?
I wonder If you can do a reseal. I know they use to have kits to repair motorcycle gas tanks. I would imagine it could be done. The process would be more tedious due to the size of the tank.

Thanks for the suggestions Mike. If you saw the pictures of my original, collapsed tank, you can see that it is pretty badly creased on one side.

The replacement tank is rusted pretty bad on the outside seam in a couple of places all the way down to the crimp where the two halves are joined. That is where it's leaking from. Not sure I want to spend the time to only find out that it can not be sealed.

Thanks for the suggestion Mike. I have a friend from work who used to do bodywork and he swears he can get the "collapsed look" out of my original tank. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Phil if you have a tank that is just leaking around the seams then I'm pretty sure I could fix it right up by creasing sheet metal around the whole seam and welding it in. Then you would clean and seal the whole tank with Por-15 sealer (works amazing) and paint the outside with Por-15 primer and it will last forever. If you want to bring your tank over sometime I'm certainly willing to give it a try. I just reworked a tank for my 240 and it came out pretty nice.

Shoot Phil, I feel bad, I should of filled it with water first hear just to make sure, but Marc is right, It can be fixed, I've done it before by brazing up some holes. As long as there is no gas in it. Have you seen exactly were it is leaking yet?
