Anybody got any 1st Series wheel covers from a '69-early'71 240-Z? I have all mine, but would like to have a set in better condition for showing.

If anybody has a lead on a '70 Z exhaust manifold, and R/H and L/H interior door sill (kick) plates in decent shape for the same car, that could be interesting in case I ever decide to bring my '70 back to original. Hmmm, what else? Will advise.........

Hey Rick!

You can actually still get the interior scuff plates from Nissan (at least as of a year or so ago), Motorsport Auto and Black Dragon.

I have an early Z exhaust manifold as well, complete with the air galley tubes! It came off my own 5/70 #3833.

Got a nice set of "D"s, but don't really want to part with them just yet.

Let me know your other needs, I might be able to help.

Hey Rick (or is it Kathy making this post???) -
Anyway, I think these might be what you are looking for:
Image

Three are original to my car and have been stored in the attic about 35 years. My #4 cap was last seen in the rearview mirror as it chased me down a fast right-hand sweeper in CO about '73. It failed to make the curve and kamikazied into a guard rail at about 60 mph - OWCH!!!

I pulled these out after seeing your post and hit one with a piece of 1500 microfine - it cleaned up pretty fair (top right). The bottom right one is a rescue from a guy's back yard, I picked it up some years ago in case I wanted to pursue a resto effort. The finish is lousy but the metal is true.

I have no plans to use them in my refurb project, will let them go very reasonable if you have an interest. Email me at james_arnett at att.net to get into detail.

Jim

Howdy, Jim, how' you, pardner?

Jus' talkin' so's you don't need an interpreter; ah used to live in Belton,
just 140 mi down I-35. People ask me do ah ever miss TX?~ and ah
say, "Yep, ever' sangle winter."

Sorry for the slow reply. Kathy had a stroke about 3 yrs ago and the
HMO doesn't want to cover a lot of the expenses, and I'm retired, so I
have to be real careful about the money nowadays.

The covers you showed are the correct ones and I am interested. I
have a complete set on each car, but at least two need work. I was
thinking in terms of having several spares since the same thing
happened to me as it did to you. I also threw a R/R cover while at
speed in heavy traffic w/only a Jersey barrier and no breakdown lane,
so, sad to say, there was no hope of recovery.

I know where this set is, but the owner has moved away. Don't know how to contact him to ask if he'll sell them or not.

They're not mine, or I'd give them to you. It would be a trip just knowing some of my parts were on the world's first commercial 240Z!:D

Mornin' Frank!

Thanks for the reply, you're as great a Bud as a guy could have! Those
are obviously some real fine caps, probably mint. But that is the type
which first came in on the 72's, the showroom literature and posters
notwithstanding. Don't get me wrong, if it comes down to that, I would
grab them in an instant and then show people the car on the poster!!!!!!!

I know a guy with a beautiful set of special wheels which he paid dearly for. His center caps are really a thing of beauty, and he was always afraid of losing one, so he used to take them off before he drove then replace them where ever he parked his Z.

One day ~ JUST ONE DAY ~ he left them on and drove his car with those expensive center caps on. You guessed it. When he parked and looked, one was missing.

He's in the process of selling some of his kids and securing a second mortgage on his house to buy a replacement

IIRC there was a set of series 1 wheel covers on craigslist recently but the price was pretty steep($1300). Might be worth a look to see if they are still lurking around.

Yup ~ it's not uncommon to see them listed at $250-$300 EACH on the web, and more if they're a complete set.

Not unless it is an HLS30 shipped from North America.

HS30 00004 had a build date of 01 or 02 1970. There are no 69 Righ Hand Drive 240Z's in Australia. HS30 00003 hasn't been found, and 00001 and 00002 didn't leave the factory.

Someone in Japan seems to have the firewall from 00002.. but it is attached to much later body panels and it's all but crushed at this point, with no engine.

FWIW,
Carl B.
