On my '70 240Z I have been running a 280Z version of the throttle linkage on my SU's for years. This is the rod that runs back from the carb linkage to the rear firewall. The 280z version was a bit more robust, but the firewall end bushing has finally worn to the point that it's very sloppy, and I can't see a way to repair it.

So....I want to return my SU linkage back to stock. I have the firewall bracket and the manifold linkage, I need JUST the throttle rod itself. Does anyone have a 1970-73 throttle rod that they would be willing to sell? I reeeeaaaalllly need one.

Bryan ~

TMurf got the one off the Club partz car, along with the manifold. I have to go back to Chick's pretty soon ~ I'll look around in there for one if you can't spring free from work.

I know the carbs and manifold are gone from the 1971 240 at Chicks, and I'm pretty sure the others are injected. Better hope Paul M reads this!

I thought of Chicks too. In other junkyards I've seen people pull the carbs and manifold and leave the rod there for some reason. Let's hope that one might still be lying there on one of the 240Zs. A 280 one would work too...I just have to pull the whole linkage...not just the rod.

Let me know when you plan on going...I'm going to try and take a couple of days off this week...maybe we can go.

To everyone else, if you have one lying around please let me know. Thanks.

I added wide washers to mine to snug it up....,.

I was going for a solid, slop-less set-up...and it works...

about 0.300"s to slide back and forth with the engines running movement, and flex, but yet solid enough accurately put the throttle where it should be.

I can snag a handful from work tonight and have them available when-ever you want to come visit.

Hrmm...after taking and looking at those pics, I think I can reduce more slop... thank's for making me make this post

Thanks but it actually it's the firewall end that's worn.

The 240 has a rod end that goes in a round hole in the bracket. The 280z version has a plastic bushing in the center that rotates, the rod is also "D" shaped instead of round which grips the bushing.

The bushing has a bunch of play in it and messes up the adjustments at full throttle. It's all crimped together so I can't get it apart without messing it up.

ahh that friggen part...

mine had a ton of slop, I had to rape one from the red Z for the brown Z...infact, I think I would also be in the same boat looking for a better one as well...

BTW, I was able to source a NOS linkage and it's now tight again.
