Need a fiberglass hood for my 77 280z race car, either new or good used. Also need a good straight cowl panel.

Not meaning to compete with Paul, but I also have a very good cowl panel off the '71 Club partz car which hasn't been spoken for yet. All proceeds go to the Club Kitty; no part costs less than $5 or over $50. A nice cowl should be worth what, do you think?

Thanks for the replies. The Z already has a f/g hood but it's in rough shape hence the request for a new or a used one needing very little to no work. I'm waiting on a truck freight quote from MSA for a new hood. If an excellent used one doesn't surface in the next week I will have to buy new. The Z is heading to the body shop for repairs of typical racing scars and a paint change away from it's current red/white/blue BSR/Electromotive look. It's a great color scheme but it's not one of their cars so the r/w/b has to go.

Frank and Paul: I will contact you shortly about a cowl panel. Car has to be done by end of May so need to get on top of what's needed. Also need excellent used (or repro?) 240 tail lights and possibly better condition 240 black tail panel pieces. Haven't owned a Z in many years so I'm not familiar with what's offered in reproduction. More time on the MSA website will help no doubt.

MSA, Black Dragon, Fairlady Parts, Danny's Datsuns, Victoria British....other members can probably add other sources.

Paul, I can sell him a cowl and you can sell him the tail lights and blackout insert panels. I want to hoard the tail lights off the partz car, since I learned what they're worth!

What are used tail lights worth?

Well, Black Dragon wants $280 each for the 1990-96 300ZX units, and $290 for the 1984-86 ZX units, and all partz for the early 240s (1970-71) are more expensive ~ WHEN you can find them. The current BD catalog doesn't even list them. They're just too scarce anymore. All they can offer now are the gaskets.

Brake master cylinders for the '70-71 240Z are $300, MasterVac boosters are $150.

Rotors are $60 each, calipers are $90, handbrake assemblies are $73 and brake cables are $100 when they have them (which they don't now).

all over priced and over hyped...cool if your doing a full show-room perfect show car, but for a driver, normal replacement parts from Autozone will do the same...and 1/4 of the price.

Another outstanding place for cheap parts is Rockauto.com.

I was able to salvage the existing cowl panel and I can get away with replacing just the right side 240 tail lamp assy for now. The left side is ok until a mint pair is sourced for a (fair?) price. Never got a call back from MSA for a truck freight quote for the f/g hood so need to ring them back today. So I need an good quality used r/h 240 tail lamp assy, used pair of wiper arms and new front & rear window rubber. I have a pair of excellent cond f/g fenders that came with the car that I don't need. Will offer them up for sale or swap for equal value of parts that I need.

The body prep and paint will be show quality and we're adding thin padding to the fenders bottom side to help resist those 'stars' caused by stones kicked up by sticky race tires. My main focus at the moment is a pair of tail light assy's that will compliment the quality of paint going on the car. First race is early June at VIR and then Labor Day weekend at LRP with a possibility of Mid-Ohio in late June.

Contact our member Dan Linquist on Private Mail and ask if he still has his NIB window rubbers for sale. He's out in Washington State but we exchange stuff with him by mail all the time. The rubber is for a 1970 240Z but I'm confident they're all the same ~ body shell didn't change.

Find him on our Member List and press his PM button. He is member #43 on the list.

His entry was made on 03Jun08, with pictures of the New-in-Bag window rubbers. See them under our FOR SALE, TRADE or FREE forum. He's a retired Datsun line mechanic with years of experience on 240Zs, and a good guy to answer questions about these cars.

Well NOS tail lights are getting hard to find and I am not sure anymore what a fair price for them are....I can tell you they go for $500 -$1000 a set depends really on who is buying and selling.
