Actually, the 240 door keys are round and the ignition is square.

All I care about is that my spare cylinder lock matches up to your existing ignition switch. I know the switches are different btwn the 240 and the 280 ~ they added different electrical connections on the back of them as the cars became more complex, and I suspect the 280 fuel injection (and any electrical fuel pumps) required additional leads off the ignition.

The matchup btwn the lock and the switch should just boil down to the siZe and shape of the slot in the switch, being matched correctly to the siZe and shape of the protruding tang on the lock.

I should find the key and lock tmrw ~ didn't find it today.

Well Irv's 240z ignition key is round and his door key was shorter and square. You may find out soon how I know that..... :D

Yeah I'm gonna get some genuine key blanks and make some copies. And would you believe it was in the chair I sit every morning. Stuck in the cushion. :roll: what a relief. You guys have all been great. And it was the brother in law that got poked by it.
