Anyone know this car? I don't recall seeing this one around. Amazing to say that in the current market at $20K this could be a decent deal, if most Series I bits are there and it's clean.

Yeah, something fishy here.

Bruce showed us this listing 5 days ago.
This is the same Sep/70 car (HLS30-0927) which 'sold' for $16,500 on 10May "from Northford CT", 11 miles away from Wallingford. Even the photos are the same, the Post ID number is the same (6887437159) and the telephone number is the same (203-889-6856). Nobody answers that phone.

Carl Beck's http://www.ZHome.com registry doesn't list this car so I can't look up an owner, and cross-searching that phone number doesn't give me anything either. The photos are so blurry we can't actually read the VIN on either build plate the original photos showed, and the 'seller' didn't photograph the easy VIN on the dashboard. Accordingly, we are asked to believe the 'seller' that this is the actual VIN.

It might be that the same 'seller' is planting a scam scenario that the car 'sold' for $16k and he now is asking for more, OR, it's just a scam all around to get someone to send them a deposit.

OK, "Vern" just answered his phone. He claims this is an Arizona car which he has never registered in his name and he has never belonged to any club. He skirted around my questions about why the car was listed first in Northford for $16k and now in WallyWorld for $20k, and said he has a guy coming with a trailer this week to pay him $20,000 cash and take the car home.

Maybe "Vern" (who sounds like he's in his 50s-60s) accepted a $16k bid then got a late offer for $20k and reneged on his word. We've seen that happen before.
"Vern" said the wheels and tires are wrong for the car and the rear wheels rub inside the wheel wells. In his first advert he claimed the previous owner had installed a lowering kit which would require "new shocks" to raise the car up off the tires.

He says he's never heard of us.

Anyway, he claims the car is being sold for $20k this week, but if anybody wanted it I suspect $20,005 would take it. 8)
