The latest offering from ZpartZ:

1972 240Z, barn-find-fresh! This car was obtained from the original and only owner who bought the car new in 1972 and drove it year round in western NY to only 49,841 miles in 1977 when it was parked in the garage due to excessive rust (imagine that!). Intending to "fix it up someday", the car sat for 38 years until this past week when it found its way to me.

It is stock and complete, all components present. It has the rare WHITE interior (although it needs a thorough cleaning desperately). The dash is PERFECT, undamaged and uncracked! The terminal rust has eaten away the rear quarters, rockers, hatch sill and inner wheel houses. The floors and frame rails need attention but are not gone. The battery area is undamaged. Fenders, doors, hatch and hood are OK. While it is "possible" to restore this chassis, it would be a major undertaking. SO, I will begin to dismantle the car over the next couple of weeks. If anyone is in need of anything, shout out. Buyer to pay shipping, any large items will have to be picked up in Webster NY. Email inquiries to zcarnut@hotmail.com

Coming next: 1985 300ZX turbo. Stay tuned!

What is that? HLS30-47605? Can't read it.

Beautiful interior color; always added bright moods to the Datsun experience.
I might use a few small parts, will contact you with a small list.
May we pleaZe zee the engine?

Frank T

Wow too bad it's that far gone.
Great story too.
I could use that right fender.

It's HLS30-77605, build date 4/72

Bumpers are sold, everything else is still up for grabs. Pics you see are as I got it, complete with 38 years of dust and dirt. The owner literally drove it into his garage and parked it, no prep at all, still has the original battery. Engine appears to be locked up, I haven't forced it yet. Head is the early E88 with 3 screw SUs. Stock 4 speed and R180 3:36.

Strangely enough, while the rear end of the car is shot with rust, the hood, fenders, doors and hatch are remarkably rust free. The jewels of the car are the interior. While dusty & dirty from sitting for 38 years, everything is in PERFECT shape, including the dash. Even the console fuse box cover still has the mounting tabs and spring intact, and they ALWAYS break! I don't think that the fuse box itself has ever been opened, still has the often missing "tool" to remove the fuses. Radio, gauges, and DASH itself are pristine. The white interior has faded to the "yellow" tone that you see after 40 years, but can be easily cleaned and restored and is undamaged. Even the door panels still have the silver strip intact.

SO....
I will be dismantling this piece of hiZtory over the next couple of weeks, shout out with wants. Road trippers get first dibs and can partake with pizza and beverage in my heated garage if you want to lend a hand!

It would be fun to zee you now, since you're retired, John. You've probably got long hair and a beard and run 10 miles a day. 8)

This old girl gave it up after only 5 years and 49,841 miles on the salty northeast roads. She slept for 38 years on life support and finally donated her organs so that other Zs may live.

Rare white interior seats/vinyl/door panels are PERFECT. Dash is PERFECT. Excellent console, radio, doors, hood, hatch. Tons of other bits ready for transplant.

Shout out with your wants, bigger items will have to be arranged for pickup.

Sad to zee it go like that, but necessary for the survival of the species.

The single part I might be interested in appears questionable due to the white interior.
On the passenger side interior, the A pillar (from the dash to the roof) is covered in a fabric strip which is missing from my car. My interior is black. The driver's side strip on your car is white, but I can't tell if you've removed the strip on the passenger side or not? If it's white also, I don't need it.

Those two toolboxes behind the seats.....a memory each time I see those.
Back in 1975 (76?) I got a ride with a buddy to pick up my Z in Honolulu after a tuneup, valve lash reset and oil change. He drove me across the Island in his second-owner 1972 240Z. We were discussing the differences btwn his '72 and my early '70; interior location of switches, different radios, seats, handling, performance, etc. I kept hearing sloshing and clanking noises behind us but his cargo deck was empty. He told me to lift the mat and look inside the toolboxes. There, he had 5 cans of beer on ice. 8) Later that summer I mentioned his car was leaking something in the parking lot. He explained the only way he could get all the melted ice water out of the toolboxes was to poke holes in the bottoms of them.

His Z had fewer than 10,000 miles on it when he did that.

And altho it's a bear to remove, that handbrake (and cable) should be salvaged. They are hard to come by, precisely because they are so hard to remove.
Internet prices for those units are absurd.
