And a 'good buy' at only $245,000.

Maybe they meant 'good bye?'

I never really understood all the fuss over these cars. Yes, they're rare, which makes them desirable. Yes, they have a 2.0L DOHC 6 cylinder with triple Mikunis, hemi-head and dual exhaust. Very impressive and it probably sounds wicked.

But the car only puts out 150bhp, which is one horse short of a stock 1970 240Z. Yes, they get the same output from a smaller engine, but since the cars weigh the same, there is no difference in performance btwn the two, is there? If horsepower and weight are identical, so is the performance. Plus, all the 432 cars are built backwards, with the steering wheel on the wrong side (unless you're a mailman).

So why would I want to spend nearly 1/4 million dollars for a car which looks like my Z, performs like my Z, and costs $243,000 more than my Z?

I mean, it's nice and it's a Z so it's desirable, but heyyy...... 8)

Well, even if that's true, that equates to $30,375 for EACH extra horsepower.

Agreed, i don't think it's that different to warrant the price. The R version was quite different though.
Rarity is the key to any car value and with only 420 manufactured compared 165k for the "regular" 240, that makes it super rare.

Here's a 1970 being driven. Sounds nice, but any Z can travel like that. Note the unusual combination of 1972 "B" pillar "snake ears" vents and 1970 rear hatch vent grilles.
Listen carefully to their discussion about the value of the car compared to the Dodge Neon.

I understand why these trade for so much in the homeland...for the Japanese collector, I would assume this is the equivalent of a Porsche Carrera 2.7 RS. As for potential American buyers, the number of potential buyers is extremely limited - these are folks who are insanely passionate about homeland cars (skyline hakosukas, kenmeris, etc.) and with too much money for their own good.

Agreed.
i guess owning any "1-of-20-made" (for the 'R' model) or "1-of-420" is an investment.
I'm also pretty sure this would out-perform the Mazda Cosmo or the Toyota 2000GT in any category.
I'd still be afraid to drive it in traffic, tho. Some little ol' lady would be sure to back out of a driveway and wreck my $250,000 investment.
