How in the heck did I end up thinking you were after a steering wheel? I guess your photo showed the after market wheel and the stock wheel, and we never looked beyond that to the CONSOLE you actually want.
Duhhhhh.

Let me go back to sleep.

Hey Frank, you might wanna try that steering wheel again because the splines are the samee. I just tried it. Or, maybe the steering wheel is wrong.

OK, I'll try again with a rubber mallet.

I'm looking for enough time to try it again, Paul. Maybe today.
I agree with you that maybe the center hub is the wrong one. I remember counting something like 28 splines on the steering shaft and 26 on the center hub (or something like that). But I was told it came off a 1971 Z car, and the box specifies all S30s from 1970-78. It has made me a confuzle woozle.

Frank I was thinking of you while pulling all the blue interior out of the one half that now resides at the scrape yard.

Hi Paul,

I'm looking for a bunch of parts for my '78 280z restoration. Let me know if you have the following in good condition.

Center console, interior door panels (butterscotch), hood louvers, steering wheel, dash (if no cracks), throttle control.

Thanks,

Paco Acosta

I only have a console and louvers for a 2+2 and are you talking about the throttle body? I gotta look for that other piece also.

I've seen the throttle control by a couple of different names, but its basically a square piece about 3x3 inches that sits on top of the fuel injection rail. My car tends to stall on occasion when I come to a stop, but then it starts right up again. The engine also races a little at idle after it has been running for a few minutes. I'm guessing its the throttle control. If you have a good console how much do you want for it? I think the louvers for the 2+2 are the same on the '78 280. Do they have the mounting bolts intact? Those have been broken off on every set that I've seen so far. At this point I'm holding mine down with duct tape (from the inside  )

Paco

Thanks Frank. It's hard to see in the schematic. I looked it up in the service manual and it's part #20 above - throttle valve switch. I was using a generic name.

Paul, you got one of these?

Paco

That is a TPS, Throttle position sensor. I think your problem is #18, the dash pot. That always causes that issue. I take em out and leave it out. The TPS can pop the lid off and clean contacts.....and I think it's adjustable on the 280. Notice the elongated holes. I don't have an answer on the louvers.....I myself don't think they fit. I guess one of these days I could take em down from the rafters and set them on a 240 hatch.....then I shall know.

Thanks Paul. I'll try cleaning the contacts on the TPS. So for the dash pot you suggest pulling it and leaving it off?
