the bottom pan does not go far enough back to bother the oil change process. there is not an opening for draining the radiator, you have to drop the pan to do that.that is why these pans did not usually make it back on the car after service work was performed.however, if you are restoring a car for showing it should have the pan in place, which comes back to me. for 50 bucks you can have your darn pan just to look at hanging on your garage wall and install for the show day!! it is straight, but needs new paint or the best thing is to powder coat it for a show finish.

In 37 years of playing with Zs, I have seen exactly ONE of these pans, so I wouldn't know.

Wish my car had come with one on it. (I think).
Sounds like a nifty thing to have, to help keep the engine bay cleaner.

Of course, then I could imagine the pan acting like an airfoil under the front of the car, adding even more lift to an already bothersome tendency to fly.

Three pans, Frank, THREE. I remember you making a comment about the pan on my car.

I still have my Math for Marines MCI if you want to borrow it.

Well, I failed that MCI course anyway ~ the Corps only taught me to count to four.

I'd hate to ruffle the crowd but my 76 still wears the original belly pan. However, like almost everything else on that car, it has been modified. For one, it needed to be cut out for the larger front swaybar, and two, I cut a hole in it so I could drain the radiator without taking it off. When I get questioned about modifying a Z, I just say, "Nissan should have done it this way in the first place."

That's my stance and I'm sticking to it. Now watch me while I cut into my rust-free fenders!

Our 1970 240Z (VIN HLS30-06289, build date 6/70) had a splash pan
on "since birth." I still have it, but took it off within a couple of years
after acquisition because it was such a pain to take off, put on, take
off, put on......... every time I wanted to get at something it screened!
I forgot what it was I had to remove it for, it was so long ago! Maybe
it's time to put it back on..............or let #13 have it...............

Funny enough, the orange '72 that we hacked apart had a belly pan but getting it off before it hit the dusty trail was a no go :(
