After a lot of soul searching, I have decided that I must part with my grandfather's 1979 gold 280ZX. Its in pretty good shape and has been owned by my grandfather or me since 1985. In 2008, I replaced the brakes and had some electrical work done (although the battery still drains if not dirven regularly). Very little rust and a small leak above the front windshield. Needs a new driver seat belt and most of all needs a good home with a Z enthusiast where its not cooped up behind tricycles and strollers. Nautrally, its OK if you decide to part it out, as long as it lives on in some form!! Hopefully someone can us it as a cheap, easy DD.

Its an automatic but still a lot of fun. Would love for it to land with someone in the CTZCC or a friend of the club. We ll take any reasonable offer. Attached a picture from the 2008 CTZCC car show at Ross' house (sorry there's a ghost in the foreground). Happy to send additional pix or respond to questions. . Thanks!

Does that happen to have a Digital Dashboard?

And how much you want for the ghost who's letting the air out of your tires? (Remember, that event was held on Halloween last year. Maybe he came a little early in 2008? That's probably who's draining your battery, too).

Hi there - How many miles are on the car? What do you mean by small leak above the windshield - is it due to rust? Is water coming through?

Thanks-

I give my approvale, very nice, not woth parting, it's in to good of shape. The leak is an easy fix, sounds like it just needs a new battery, but doesn't sound like any issue. Is it a fully loaded model? (no digi dash until 83) but would have check button in cluster, cruise control, electric windows, power mirrors and A/C. The only thing with 79 is the engine was hi-emmision and not as quick as 81-83 NA's but still a fun car to drive. Hey, it's a Z. :D

Thanks for the posts. The car has about 150k miles. I think the leak on top of the windshield is due to a little rust, but rust is not very noticeable. I ve driven in rain several times, but only had it leak once. I agree that it should be an easy fix. Not a digital dash, but pretty slick automatic mirrors and stereo controls.

I have identified the ghost and promise he wont follow the car to the new owner! Its a fun car.

A/C can be fixed. So a fully loaded 79. You didn't mention price, but I figure $5,000?

We ll take any reasonable offer and we hope that lands in the $5000 range. Based on a little research, i think we'd expect something south of that.

I also noticed it has the German Cross rims, which I didn't think came on the 79, or very limited. I have a set of the 79 original hubcaps. I also had quite a few 79's in my time, none came with rims. Well, it's very nice, I wish you the best, the new owner would be happy I'm sure.

Seeing this car, I'm getting tempted into collecting '79 ZX's! Not really,
taxes, insurance, and registrations are already busting the budget.
Pretty car, though. If nobody buys her and you don't know what to do
with her, I would gladly receive a nice gift and bring the trailer out to OK
to give her a nice ride home.

BTW Paul, I'm getting really technical with you!   I know
what you are talking about when you say the German cross, the same
as in the combat decoration the Iron Cross. Actually it is a Maltese
Cross. Thanx for kindling my imagination, however; I think I will name
our blue '79 ZX the "Blue Max" after the German equivalent of our
Congressional Medal of Honor.

My first Z was a blue 79 2+2 that had the crosses on it......

Yea, Tom, they just might have came on certain models. If you notice, they look just like the 280z hubcaps. Thanks, for that info Rick, but I think it's set in stone, that everyone calls them German Cross.
