Is it as good as the Datsun forklift Keith showed us? Roll bar? Racing stripes? Big front Nerf bars? Hoosiers on racing mags?

Almost that good. I messed up and some how couldn't load the pics. But you can look at this for now. I didn't even know it was an Ansa pipe, and I realy didn'tknow it had baffles inside. So thanks to you I learned something new. I know it's not what you need, but it's interesting. Ummmmm, maybe on my 83 turbo?

Oooooooo! A real old ANSA system! Probably one of the last ones they made for the Z car. The very early ones had the tips one above the other instead of side-by-side like those. No big difference, except these would require a larger hole in the rear valance, I suspect.

Big diameter pipes, too! Mine were 1-1/2" ID; these look like they're What? Maybe 2-1/4" or more?

Those would sound tremendous if they aren't all blown out by now. Whatcha' gonna do widdum?

Anybody remember an "Abarth" Exhaust System for the 240? Seems like that was the name of "THE" aftermarket exhaust to have back in the 70's. It was an over/under style.

Don't always remember things correctly and wanted a sanity check. Just a memory itch I needed to scratch.

Anybody ...anybody?? :?

Robin

Actually that is probably the one I have in my memory, the Ansa is new to me, and is different from what I remember the twin pipes from looking like.

By the way, wasn't there a dual exhaust set up for the 240, and there is a factory rear crossmember with the two humps for the duel exhaust system to run through. :?

Paul,

I'm not familiar with the factory dual exhaust set-up but that's not at all to say there wasn't one. I would think that Frank or one of the other guys (or ladies) might remember. I wish I paid more attention to the details of my first Z car (72' green), mechanics, serial #, etc.

However, as a 21 year old it wasn't so much what was under the hood that had MOST of my attention back then, it was, of course, more who I could get to ride in the passenger seat!

Robin

 Hahaha! You guys are funny. It sounds like we all had the same youthful pursuits.

ABARTH made exhaust systems for Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Austin Healey, and several other european makes. Their signature "side by side" pipes out the back don't fit well on a 1st generation Z car, due to the size of the exhaust cutout in the rear valance. ABARTH systems are big inside diameter, heavy steel pipes and thick, heavy mufflers. High quality stuff all the way.

ANSA made their pipes emerge Over-Under, which fit perfectly into the oblong valance cutout. The ANSAs were far cheaper than the ABARTHs both in quality and cost and weighed far less than the ABARTH systems. They were offered as dealer options in 1970 and early 71, then as aftermarket systems for a few years after that.

Frank,

Thanks for the info on the exhaust systems. You constantly impress me with your fountain of knowledge. I think I did then have an Abarth system installed after my stock one had it's day (or maybe even before since it was soooo cooool). Then again it could have been on my 74' 260. Oh how the 70's are such a blurrrrrrr.

Robin :?

Robin ~ well, thanx for the flowers, but I'm not sure you could actually term it "Knowledge"........more like tons of useless trivia!

I often envy those who can't remember the 60s and 70s. I often feel stuck in them!

Such failure to evolve led to the extinction of many species. Guess I'm next.

Frank,

I think you've got plenty of company (being stuck in the 60's and 70's). I'm certainly there as well (just ask Colin about my music) - just can't remember all of it very clearly. Probably that sub-conscious defense mechanism God wisely installed.

Robin

I envy those that grew up in the 60's and 70's, well, being driving age and able to go to some real concerts back then. I'm a product of 68, but more of an 80's guy, but I'd like to think I live in the 60's and 70's any chance I get. Old music, movies, and cars and the way of life. Loud exhaust too.

Well if you listen to that music in your Z, (even if it's not running, :P ) then it would be Z related. I have most of that listed on vinyl.
