Well, after many hours of thought, i'm selling my prized possession. I started rebuilding, and restoring Chevy trucks, 15 years ago, and after adding 4 chevy trucks to the family, i'm selling my collection.
Many of you already know the story of how a 1/70 240z, HLS30-1651 came back to life. I'm now nearing the end of a 2 1/2 year restoration, on the z.
I started by pulling the engine, and disassembling it. What i found was amazing, to my delight, was a pristine L-28 block, new pistons, rods, bearings, and oil pump. I put the engine back together, along with its N-42 head. The engine has the org. rebuilt 70 SU's.
I've upgraded the electrical system with, a 50 amp alternator, a new plug and play headlight harness, from MSA, combination switch rebuild, blower motor rebuild, as well as a rebuild on the wiper motor.
The interior has been completely gone thru, with the org. vinyl being renewed, center console reconditioned, restored steering wheel, org. factory hitachi radio, pwr. antenna. new inner and outer shift boots.
The exterior has been repainted a royal blue enamel, 6 top coats have been applied. The original body side moldings will go back on last, right after i cut and buff, the new paint. It took me 2 weeks to wet sand the car. New BF Goodrich tires, mounted in 14" vaned alum. wheels complete the outside
I have completely gone thru the car in every detail. If you were doing a concors car this wouldn't qualify, for several reasons. 1) I painted the underside of the hood flat black, reason being, the twin SU's tend to have blow by over time, and i have found this is an easier way to keep the engine compartment clean, as well as being a nice contrast with the engine, and all its polished shine. 2) The L-28 engine isn't original, however i feel it's an upgrade from the L-24, for obvious reasons. I have a set of black mirrors going back on the car, but i still have the org. chrome drivers side mirror.
I also have all the org. badging, which will be the very last items installed, on the car.
I'm asking $ 25,000 for the car, a bargin considering i have roughly 2,800 hours of my love invested, to date.
Any additional details about # 1651 can be obtained by e-mail to danlinquist@gmail.com or by calling, 360-666-7222. Thanks for looking at my car. Dannys 240z.

Danny!
I can't believe you're actually willing to sell this historically-important car!
After the thousands of hours of hands-on TLC you poured into restoring #1651, I should suspect it has become a part of you.

You and I "met on the 'Net" because of this car, and you have sent me almost step-by-step progress photos of the detailed and exacting restoration
work you've put into it. (I probably still have some, and with your permission I would post them). Altho I've never met you, over the past few months I have felt happy for you as you neared completion on this 2-3 year project.

You're one of the few people I've met who ever took a 240 car down to the bare metal shell, then restored it piece by piece. I'm very proud that you chose to do that to ANY Zcar, but it's especially important that you have done it to such an early VIN.

I think your price is very fair (in fact, I figured you actually had a bit more than that invested in the project) and because I followed your progress on an almost-daily basis, I feel I "know" the car. If I didn't already have a Z which was significantly more important to me for personal reasons, I'd be on the next thing smokin' to the West Coast, and drive HLS30-01651 back here. I know you said you had some final detailing you wanted to do (polishing etc) before you considered it "done", so when you feel confident there just isnt anything left to do to the car, snap a shot of it and post it to us, please?

My (selfish) hope is that you'll change your mind and find a way to keep this historic Z car. It's one of the first 2,000 cars built, and of those, there can't be more than 1/2 of them left.

I envy you, Dan. You now have a perfect 1970 240Z, all new!

Some things in life still make me jealous!

Frank T

Thanks for all the superlatives. The real reason i'm selling the car, is the economy. I may need the money for retirement, what with the rising costs of everything. Dan

Dan,
Can you post some pictures of the car on this post? I think that may help to spur some interest. With the facility that Jim Hagani put in place it is easy to add picutres now. When responding, just click on the "browse" button below the post and attach the jpg file from your computer. Regards, Ross
