Anything about the transmission or mileage on the car? (We know the engine was replaced).

I emailed the OP, he shared these pictures with me.

Certainly appears to be very well kept.

WELL! Thanks for those.

Air conditioning AND a sunroof ~ Datsun sure learned what they needed to do to make the S30 livable.

Small dashboard crack and I don't like the carpet color, but MANNN, the rest of that car is sweet. I've only ever seen one Z with those wire wheels, and it stood out among 50 other Zs at a car show. I notice a small antifreeze leak at the front of the block and along the radiator, but that might be distant history. The engine is running in the photo and nothing looks wet, so that's a good thing.

Somebody will be very happy to get this car.

Frank your assessment was exactly like mine. For the right number it'd be a great car I think.

Great minds think alike, Jay. 8)

On magnification it looks like three dashboard cracks in the usual places. 280Z dashes are nowhere near as expensive as the older 240 dashes, so this could be a very good investment opportunity.

We have information that the engine was changed early-on, but no mention of why. This one may have a leaky head gasket or hoses.

Small stuff ~ this car should sell well and soon to someone willing to put some love on it.

Frank

Yes he mentioned the engine was changed for a rebuilt unit in 1983, and the engine is a 1976 model from what I understood. Nothing was mentioned as to the whereabouts of the numbers matching engine, or why it was changed. For all I know it could be sitting in the garage there.

They mentioned that until recently the car was driven periodically, but more recently it gets used very little.
No mention of any mechanical repairs needed, but just from the photo it appears there may be something going on with the cooling system, far from a deal breaker but something to note. I do see in the photos that it's running, and the oil pressure looks ok.

Here's a 4-year old article about a roadworthy 280z which auctioned for almost $12,000. That was before the Z turned 50 years old and before that insane 240z sold for $320,000 last year; those two events boosted the value of every 240z and, to a lesser extent, all the 260s and 280s as well. (If you can't afford a 240, you will want a 260 or a 280. When everybody is trying to buy them, the prices climb).

This Pennsylvania car we're talking about is not original, shows a little wear, and needs a little mechanical attention. But it appears solid and is offered at a time when drivable 280s are being routinely bought for $20,000, fixed up and flipped for $30,000.

Here are some current examples of 280z prices in different locations. Notice how widely the price range fluctuates:
