So one more delay!! Car is ready to hit road. Ready for alignment Got rear tires on and wam! Big positive camber on rear wheels. Checked everything. New Kyb struts.Rear is a bit higher now. All new bushings. I read about the new end link bolt and collar being too short. Because the sway bar touches the control arm on the bottom side. Could this cause any positive camber? Do I have to resort to camber plates for strut tower. Why is this happening when before I changed things all was fine. I know we can’t adjust camber on rear. What to do??? I even sent Vinny Bedini an email. The guru

What do the rear wheels do when you jack the rear end off the ground? Do they return to neutral camber?

Did you roll the car after placing it back on the ground? Often these cars will look like they have a lot of positive camber when they are lowered back on the ground after being up on jacks or stands but will "settle" to proper camber once the car is moved on the ground.

Thanks Guys
When I lowered the car, drove it up & down driveway a bit. I looked at tires again and they were bowing. Then raised back end and they still bow-top out-positive camber. I tried loosening end links&control arm then lowered back end. No difference. ???

Did you check to see if the spring height dimensions were similar between old and new springs? If your new springs are much stiffer, but even the same overall dimensions as the old springs you will end up with a higher ride and positive camber. All I know is that when I put the Tokico springs and struts on my "71 Z way back in 2003, the new springs were stiffer (thicker also) but were shorter lowering the car about 1-1/2" resulting in just a bit of negative camber which was OK. Also, the new front and rear springs were different dimensions. Don't mix them up like I did. Just sharing my similar experience but I'm not sure if that applies to your model Z though. :?

I've had this discussion previously with Paul Macklin (RI club member) and he installed adjustable camber kits on his Z. They are available for your car at Motorsport Auto.

John I checked at motorsports. There are no adjustable camber kit for 280zx 1983.
Next I will re-check the old and new struts for comparison.

Well, RDZ is right there in Danbury with you. If all else fails, call the experts.

Technically not a camber kit, but slotting the mount holes is a last result option. For racing, who cares. The same height spring but stiffer theory is more like it. The 280zx came with 3 different springs. Soft medium and stiff. 3 different models. They are marked with 2 paint dots on the original springs. You probably had soft springs, now have stiff.

Hi nostradamo,
I am in Newtown and have the exact same issue you have here with positive camber, just wondering how you ended up on this story> what was your fix.
Thanks
Jim

Is the rear end now higher? Did you lay the new strut down to the old one and see if they were the same? Changing camber will either be a bolt set or a shim kit for behind the wheel hub.
