Hi all! Thanks for all the help. I know, I haven't been on. I finally got back into it this weekend. Still rough as ever. Does help to have A/C off. No power until it gets to around 2500/3k rpm. I did have some thoughts. First if I screwed up and put 87 octane in would that cause it? Also could there be water in the tank due to condensation?

I got the freeware version of consult. Got it to work but I think I need the full version to check each cylinder.

Anymore thought would be greatly appreciated!

Do you live near any of the large national autoparts stores such as AutoZone ?
The one near me will hook you up to diagnose your problem for free. They have the full software package so it should tell you what the issue is. 8)

Thanks for the autozone tip. Yes there is one near me. Getting there may be half the fun though. Luckily I do not have to get on 95.

You can hook a computer up all you want, but it wont say you have a bad injector. They also had a problem with the wire harness on the early Z32's. You can take a long screw driver and put it to your ear then to the base of the injector and hear if it's working or sounds weak. You can't tell if it's not spraying like it should. Personally I would just replace the Injectors, maybe with some bigger ones if available, and always use 93 octane. I don't use any fuel cleaner junk in my engines either, that's what the redline is for on the tach. :D

Update. I did the pull the plug test to see which cylinders didn't change how it was running. Was able to do 5 out of the 6. Two did not change things. So it looks like injectors need to replaced?

Also, I got smoke rising from the back of the engine. After putting it back in garage, we went out later only to find the garage full of smoke. Help!

No. I have checked the oil level it's fine. Clean actually. I can't pinpoint what it smells like. It could be gas. but not sure.

I'm not ruling out bad injectors, but I would try to pinpoint where this smoke is coming from, preferably with the Z outside of your garage. Does it smell like an electrical wire smoldering? Any critter nests on the exhaust manifold or pipes, air cleaner?

HOLD on for a minute, before condemning the injector, if not leaking gas of course, you need to hook up a noid light to the injector plug and make sure it is blinking while car is running. If it is not blinking, you have a problem with either the wire harness, most likely, or computer, not so common. You can use any 12v bulb with wires attached to it. I use a 194, side marker bulb.

Hi all,

Thanks so much for all the help. I am pleased to report that it was the spark plugs. Yesterday I pulled the coil pack for cylinder 2. Pulled the plug. Put in the coil pack and started it. No spark. I knew the pack was working because I got bit by it :shock:

Took a close look at the plug. It was all fouled. Wet with gas. Went to Advance Auto and picked up six E3 plugs. Replace no. 2 and 3 as I knew they weren't firing at all. Huge improvement. Replaced 1 and 5 also. This morning replaced 4 and 6. Purrrr :D

Back to it's old self. Perhaps somehow the plugs got fouled from sitting so long? Not sure but she's running great now.

Still need a front end alignment due to a slight shimmy at 70. Need to now look at Hp enhancements.

Well that's good to hear. I didn't know you didn't pull the plugs yet but that'll do it. Now if it happens again then the injectors are leaking down while sitting. Alignment wont solve your shimmy problem. First make sure you have no play in tie rods or ball joints or bad bushings, worn out rack and pinion, (can be adjusted.) If that is good, then have your tires balanced. If it persist after that, then it's the tire itself. Then after making sure the car is tight up front AND no play in the rear, then take it for an alignment.

Paul, thanks for the info. Interesting about the injectors leaking. Could it be all of them? Every plug was fouled.

Also, on the alignment, the car has 21,784 miles. Still possible for the bushings etc. to be messed up?
