Has anyone removed thier backfire valve? I suppose this is to prorect the carbs.

Almost everyone has removed their anti-backfire valve and capped the vacuum holes. I haven't seen a real one in about 30 years. They are just a diaphragm dashpot which makes the throttle linkage close more slowly when you take your foot off the gas quickly. That is supposed to prevent the mixture from leaning out suddenly and causing backfires out the tailpipe (not flashbacks out the carbs. There's a difference).

If you are counting on points for originality in car show judging, I guess you would want to leave it on. Mine actually drives better without it.
