I got to zee this car over the weekend, and Rich is doing an impressive amount of work to it. He's making good time but he's taking care to make every repair reliable, so he isn't likely to have to go back in there and do it again during his lifetime. The car will now probably outlive him.
Keep up the good work, buddy. Not many of us could achieve what you're accomplishing.

I got the top of the plenum area painted and I'll put back the wiper linkage/Motor assembly next. It's. It quite the same gray as stock but it's close enough. I used Dupli-Color engine enamel color DE1611 New Ford Gray.

Sorry Frank it was all I could find in a pinch.
I got the whole wiper mechanism installed and it's working as good as new.
Next on to the rocker.

 (Sigh). Oh well, it's done now. I'll remember that each time I zee #777 in the future.

BTW the best Ford part you can use on your 240 is the valve guide kit for the 4.0L Explorer engine. Fits our Zs perfectly, made of longer lasting material and costs lots less than the Datsun kit.

That valve guide tip is great.
That gray is never seen anyway since it's under the cowl.

I think many guys on here will be going through this sooner or later, I know I will be too. It's great to see it being done but it seems so daunting for me especially when I know I'll have to learn everything like welding, bending and shaping the metal from scratch. A few people I talk to just say "oh it's easy u just close your eyes and point" but I know that's bs. I'm grateful for this forum and people like frank who can lend valuable guidance. The repairs look great, even with the Ford paint lol!!

I bet most of the cars here have something hidden.
My car just isn't embarrassed to show off it's well earned corrosion.
Any type of metalwork just requires that you practice like any other endeavor.
It will also give you an excuse to get some new tools.
It helps if you have some understanding of the properties of the materials you're working with too. Then you can close your eyes and shoot.
Or if you have the $ you could just hire someone to do it.

I'm working on the dogleg and rocker panel section too. I have a flat pattern of the very bottom section behind the rear of the rocker panel. You can see the section on my instagram:

You may be able to extend the top of the flat pattern to get what you need. I have a 75' 280z so I'm not sure if there would be any differences due to that either. Let me know if you would like a copy of that flat pattern!
