I've always felt the S30 bodied cars (240/260/280) shared some common dimensions and therefore could share some parts. Does anyone have any input about putting a 280Z radiator into a 240 body?

Thanks,
Frank

I just bought a 280z radiator for my 1970 240z because I was told it would work. The bolt holes are in the wrong spots, the outlet on the bottom comes straight out instead of bending up at 90 degrees and the bottom of the radiator hangs below the fromt valance. Oh, and I believe that the 240 has three rows and the 280 has only two. - Derek

AHA! Well, that answers a lot of questions. Sorry that didn't work, especially since I was the one who directed you to N.Milford. That will be made right, of course, and you won't lose anything but your time.
I never knew they were any different and I would have bet they would hook right up. BTW, the original 240 radiator was a 2-row aluminum core. After about 10yrs the fins started falling off them like old christmas tree needles and the cars started overheating. Happily, there's enough room inside the 240Z radiator frame to hold a 4-row core, and I chose copper instead of aluminum. It has never failed me since (35yrs now) and nobody can tell by looking at it that it isn't stock.

Thanks for that input ~ like they say, you learn something new every day. This was mine.

Frank

Thanks Frank, Vinny seemed more than reasonable and I'm sure he'll allow me to return it. I'm going to try to run to RI tomorrow to snag that 240 rad. It's $100 instead of $50 but at this point I just want to drive my Z! On the bright side, the time and gas money I spent today in New Milford wasn't wasted because I enjoyed a fun (trouble free) cruise in my 260z on a beautiful day with my father. Can't ask for a better day than that!

I never tried a 280 radiator in the 240, but it seems from what I see here it doesn't, but I do know the 280zx radiator does fit. I think they are all 2 rows. Aftermarket, you can get 3 rows. After replacing my 280zx radiator with the correct Radiator, it's a better feeling having the correct one. The ZX will work, but hangs low. I guess as long as it holds coolant, all is good.

Old thread here....

A 280Z radiator will 'fit' a 240Z but its too tall and will hang below the frame a few inches...(tried it once). Not recommended for speedbumps.

I have an aftermarket copper 3-core from Ebay. Looks stock, no issues.
