As I drive more I'm noticing lots of things.
My mirror was vibrating like a harley davidson so I investigated.
The backer plate was totally rotted and barely doing anything.
I made a replacement out of some stainless sheet metal I had in stock.
I tried matching the curve of the original and it didn't turn out bad.
The holes in the door skin were pulled out a lot so I lightly hammered them back, sanded the rust and primed them.
Why such thin sheet metal Nissan?

You seem pretty handy. I never asked, but I'm getting suspicious ~ what do you do for a living?

I work as a quality engineer for a manufacturing company.
However I'm a licenced FAA Airframe and Powerplant Technician.
Plus I have been wrenching on cars, bikes (human powered and engine driven), building houses, and whatever else I could since I was about 5.
In fact when I was about 11 I used to take my sisters bicycle apart then charge her to put it back together.
That is until my parents found out...

I also replaced the mirror base unit with a better one I had but had to break the glass to get the swivel out.
I went from having two good glass units to one shattered and one broken in half.
Oh well I'll look for another.

Well I decided to just buy a new genuine Nissan replacement mirror and avoid all the headaches of rigging this one back together.
