Hm, actually 205/50/15 is the more popular size rather than 225. Might be another good pick if you are running 6" wide wheels, but hope the 225's work!

already running 215's so going down to 205 not an option for me.
Don't forget I'm trying to get a wider patch to help with bite
...... 360 to 400 lbs of torque going to the ground with the SBC.
I'll put a spring rubber in the rear this week b4 trying the tires.

I'm running 225/45/15 Toyo r888 and have 280 shock mounts on. With out those I would rub tires in the rear. This is the biggest tire I think will fit without cutting the wheel wells.

Paul, what do the 280 shock mounts do ....... lower or raise the car?

Yes, but also keep in mind compound is also (usually moreso) important with respect to width.

205's with better and more aggressive rubber compound will bite and grip a lot more than even a 245 of harder compound. Of course it will also wear faster as well.

Justin, your correct, but a wider tire of equal compound will be even
better as long as contact patch is proper. Depending on the weight of the car and suspension set up a wider tire might not yield a good contact if the suspension doesn't have adjustment available to compensate, thus, contact patch may not be optimal. With my original v8 there was just enough extra weight to cause tires to wear on the inside, and there is no adjustment for this.
I put a spring rubber in to lift it and adjusted for it that way.
In my case, I'm not racing the car so I'm looking for street properties and wear
on this tire set. If I start autoxing, I'll have a different set up. With my car's mods I'd be running in a tough class so unless I do an r200, brakes, wheels/tires etc. the car wouldn't be optimized for competition. As it is, it would still be fun, but competitive? Hard for me to drive less than all out and
I'm not sure the r180 can handle the torque.

The 280 shock mounts are 2" taller. Even with all new springs on, (1" lowering entire car) It just seems the 240 sits lower in the rear than a 280. just something I notice when they sit side by side. So I basically raised my rear end 2" but really 1' to stock height. Gee, it sits perfectly level now. I just happen to have a set, but they do cost a lot if you went to buy new. A bigger foot print is better, but it's also tire compound. My Toyo R888's, (and just think there is probably better,) gave me quite the traction on the corners at NH..............to the point I think I would of snapped my steering column before they would give out. I heard the R180 can handle quite a bit of torque until you can get a R-200. Then I would suggest if you have a lot of torque, get the Porsche axle shafts from wolf racing. I'm using the ZX ones for now. Of course I'm still running my original engine, no mods there..................Yet.

Paul, yeah, I noticed the rear does tend to sit a bit lower.
I don't know the exact age or spring set that's on the car,
don't notice any sag or signs of fatigue, so for now I'll see
what I can do with spring rubbers.
In the early days, when running in "stock" .... we'd cut a
turn or so off the OE springs and put hard stops on, then
paint the koni's to stock color ......... and back then we'd
go around to tire dealers looking for sets of worn (slick)
tires of the type and size we wanted. I used to run different
profiles front and back depending on desired handling.
Back then radials were not real common. Had to be creative.
We never even thought of stretching the letter of the class regs.

Okay guys. The 225/50/15's are fine. Actually more clearance than
the 215/60/15's. Here's some pix

That'll work. Do you need a hard top for that? I was thinkin of cutting this roof off a 240 I have. :?

Nice thought, but I wanted a "roadster". I had a TR7 convertible top but it
wouldn't fold so it was either on or off, alla hardtop. So I had the fold up
travel top made just to have something if got caught out and keep inside dry.
Works fine.

I can't figure out why the pix came out soooooo big. I was able to reduce them
somehow in an earlier post but now can't find anyway to view smaller image other
than to open in another tab. Anyone have an answer?

Did you try changing the size before uploading them?
