I don't want to change wheels at this time on the roadster (260z),
Currently car has 215/60/15's ......... I'd like to fit it with 225/50/15's
Current fitment has plenty of space up front, however, at rear they fill out
wheel wells pretty well. I'm thinking the 50 series will allow for the extra width
due to the smaller diameter, approx. 1.3". Here's a handy link for quick size
comparisons size to size .....
http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/tireca ... -225-50r15

Anyone have experience with these sizes on a stock 240/260?

I'm running 235/60/15 tires on my 240Z and they fill up the wheel well nicely. Not obtrusive but aggressive. No clearance issues, although it's tight. Next time, I'll go with 225s, the 235s make it a bear to steer at low speeds.

Thanks for the comments John. I have the black roadsterized 260 that
I bought out of Rochester, it was in your club for a short time and you had
sent me a comment. I've made major mods to excepting the suspension and
body. I've been hoping to meet you at one of the events, hopefully this year.
Have had our sites on your event but thus far conflicts have won out.

With the 215/60's mine is already an exercise machine when stopped but
almost perfect on the move. I'm looking to see if I might still have some tires
of my 928 (225/50 front, 245/45 rear) but I think I chucked them last year due
to age. Anyway, I'm looking to try the 225/50's and will let you know and will take
some pix.

Where are you guys finding these size tires for a 15 inch wheel. I would like to find a set of 235/50 R15's or 225/55 R15's for my 81 280zxt. I've had no luck finding these sizes so far unless I want to spend north of $225 per tire.

Phil, I got my tires and wheels from Motorsport Auto as a set, the tires are Dunlop. I have to believe that Tire Rack would have something suitable.

Thanks John, I've checked Tire Rack among others for the past several years without any luck. The Falkens I'm running now were purchased in 2003 and though there's plenty of tread left on them I'm concerned with their age. Luckily the stock 205/60 R15 are still available but other 15 inch sizes are dwindling fast... Finding a wider tire size would be awesome...

Hi Phil,
go to following link .... Firestone service centers
http://www.firestonecompleteautocare.co ... 0&rim=15&=

They have a special on Falken Zeix 912 on special 225/50/15

Not exactly the tire I want, but might due for know. Cheap!
Kumo also has a tire for $81 same size
I need to get my car out of the shop to see if they'll fit with no clearance issues.

Thanks for the link John! Sounds like a good deal. I'm interested in the 225/50 R15 size you posted. I am aware that the speedometer will be off a bit, which is fine. I'm more concerned about the stock rim width of 6 inches. The sizing charts recommend a rim width of 6-8 inches but reading on the internet, I've found that 225's on 6 inch rims balloons the tires out a bit and affects handling. Can anyone chime in with their own personal experience?

I would definitely like a wider tire but I'm not willing to forego my stock snowflake wheels!!

I use tire rack to see the actual Size of the tire, they have a nice handy chart, but then go to Town Fair to get something equivalent. Only because they are walking distance from my house. When I had a ZX, my favorite tire size was 225/50/15 on the stock rim. It looked better than the original size. JMO.

Thanks Paul, you won't happen to have any pictures laying around with 225/50 R15's on stock 6" wide wheels would you?

Sad to say but 15" tire sizes are going by the wayside. I owned a 1993 Toyota MR2 which had 225/50-15 in the rear and 195/55-15 in the front stock. It wasn't that long ago that I had 20 different options for brands in that size and as cheap as $75 each. Now like you said they are just NLA!

Don't worry, 15's wont disappear totally, ever.

It's a miata tire size, so there will always be high performance tires available for 15's somewhere. :D

Well guys, I ordered a set of the Falken 225/50/15's today and will test fit them
next friday afternoon. I'll let you know results and take some pix to post if they work.
Problem is there apparently aren't very many left in the Firestone warehouse and this
sale is good to end of the month so pickins are getting slim. I did find a set of toyo's
I believe for $81 same size and that was IT!. I may need to put a spring rubber in the rear
to lift it a bit, we'll see. I put some in the front as the V8 tended to bring the top of the tires
in a bit and there's no adjustment. The rubbers tucked them in perfectly and what a difference
in handling and lightened up the steering quite a bit. Anyway, I'll be back at you next week.
If anyone does anything in the meantime, I'll be watching.

John, how wide are your wheels?

Post subject:  Re: max. tire size on stock S30

I think they are 6.5 but won't know for sure until next week.
I've never measured them, have only had the tires rotated
never off the wheels. With the engine switches etc. I wanted
to watch tire wear b4 getting new tires. I set it up with firestone
to bring the car in, they'll swap the tires, drop the car and see if they
fit. If I move the car I own the tires. Life if fun!
