Some years the Z drives only about 500 miles. I try to avoid running on old, stale gasoline. Therefore, I keep the tank around 1/4 to 1/2 and always add Stabil when I put in gasoline. Do you think I should be using a winter fuel additive like HEET to avoid water forming in the tank from condensation The car is kept in an unheated garage.

Unless your tank is full, condensation will form, especially in unheated storage. Best bet is to keep the tank full, it would take a looooong time for that gas to go bad. Come spring, DRIVE the car, use a tank and then fill it up with fresh fuel.

Products such as HEET are good for winter daily drivers, it actually surrounds the water molecules in your fuel and separates it from the gas to allow it to be burned. Used in long term storage, the water molecules actually sink to the bottom of the tank and sit there which can promote rust.

Stay-Bil is what to use for storage. It seals off the fuel from air/moisture contamination by creating a layer AROUND the fuel. Be sure that you follow directions to treat the entire fuel system tank to engine so that the fuel is stabilized properly not only in the tank, but in the carbs, fuel lines, etc.
