["I promise, this will be the last question"].

Don't be selfish. Each of us learns something new every time another question is asked. That's what this Club is for.

I lied. One more symptom. This problem only happens once a day. I can stop and go, drive for hundreds of miles and it only happens within the first five miles of when I start my day. Rest the car for twenty minutes and the problem does not happen again until the next day no matter how much I drive it.

Maybe this is a southern car. :P The only way to know is taking it apart and getting to the source.

Ahhh....excuse me. I misunderstood. :oops:

Whadda ya think, Paul? Only happens once, within the first minutes of use each day. Sound like something trying to freeZe up / rust up and getting broken free when he drives it? What could get sticky like that overnight, and break free with the first couple of uses? Is there a brake cable back there on the Z31s which could hang up overnight, or something?

Those darn gremlins I tell ya. The only way to find out is start looking at the obvious and take it apart. Detaching cables from the caliper will help decide that. e-brake handle should move freely now, if not, cable issue.

That's a logical approach ~ disconnect the handbrake cable at the rear calipers and zee if that changes things. Also flex the handbrake handle a few times with the cables disconnected to zee if the cable moves freely or not.

It would tell you a lot;
It wouldn't cost ANYthing;
It might eliminate one possibility or even isolate the problem.

I like it.

Figured out what was wrong. The front pass side soft brake line was shot. From outside it looked fine but the problem was inside. Super easy to fix. Took less then 20 minutes. I had about 15 replacement lines to choose from

For future fyi. Here are the symptoms to look for.

1) Car drives fine for first 5 miles or so.
2) Brake pedal starts to get hard.
3) you will feel the car start to drag a little.
4) Park car for 30 minutes and it will be back to normal when you start driving again.
5) As time goes on, #2 and #3 will get worse and instead of happening once a day, will now happen 2 or 3 times.
6) Symptoms will not appear when outside air temps are in the 30's. Only happens in warmer weather.
7) Control fluid loss and you will only have to bleed that one caliper.
8) Be careful not to let this go on to long because you could warp the disc. You will know if you have done that if you brakes chatter when you come to a stop.

Hope this helps someone in the future.

:thumbs_up: Page one, my first reply. :roll: FYI, brake fluid can become acidic, eats rubber from within, and will look good on the outside. If you have an old car, just replace brake hoses before driving it. A good looking hose can rupture, doesn't have to be frayed or look old. From the inside view, it's old. Under hydraulic pressure you can push fluid through, but it can not return, and it is affected by heat.....that's why it was good when it was cold. If this continued, it will get to the point of no return. Good fix :D Mr Moto: Brakes first.....Speed later. 8)

Just a note on an earlier comment you made about not using the e-brake............
I think it's a good idea to use the e-brake regularly on these cars. Beyond helping keep the lever and cables moving freely, it also helps make sure that the rear caliper pistons stay free.

Ones of those items I should of marked, got a bunch hanging on the wall, might be one 240 cable in there. Be nice if you had yours out to compare.
