No shims are needed. They are a direct bolt on. There are two options. If you get the calipers with a casting number of S12 then they will work with the stock 240z rotors. If you get the calipers with a casting number of S12W then you will need vented rotors from a 84 300zx NA and a 1" spacer to account for the rotor hat size difference from stock. I forgot what years Toronto pick up and 4 runner trucks are needed for the calipers.. I will go back and check.

One for the if you do go for the vented rotor setup with the S12W calipers then you should upgrade the brake master cylinder to a 15/16 unit from a 79 280zx.

Irv,
The calipers you need are as follows:

Using stock 240Z solid front rotor you need '79-'85 Toyota 4WD Pick up. (S12 casting number)

Using the '84 Nissan 300ZX front vented rotor with spacer you need either '89-'95 Toyota Pickup 4WD OR 4/89 - '91 Toyota 4 Runner caliper (S12W casting number)

Rockauto.com has quite a few different brands of calipers. They range from $35 -$80 each. Either caliper you decide to use there isn't a shortage of stock. I highly recommend rockauto.com when it comes to purchasing parts.

Here is a print for the spacer when using the vented rotors. You could have a machine shop fabricate a set for you..

Here are my S12W calipers that I have installed on my 260Z..

Hi Adam,

Thanks. I had the whle set up w/vented rotor and spacers, but sold them after I sold my last 240. I'm going to use the S12s w/the solid rotor. At the most, I may enter one or two gymkannas.

Irv

I have a set of the S12s at the garage that I took off when installing the S12W. They were in working condition when I took them off. I was going to blast them and paint them and try to sell the pair. Would you want them?

If he doesn't.... I might...

Edit: poo...

Edit 2: eBay. Or you can make your own.

Edit 3: What size fittings are there on the S12 and S12W? 10mm x 1.0 inverted flare?

Edit 4: Sorry for butting in. Just so happens to be a mod I was seriously considering before getting back on the road.

I don't know what size fittings the calipers have. I would like to guess that they are the same as stock.

Well then they must be 10mm x 1.0. I ask because my 240sx rear brake conversion came with banjo fittings on the lines supplied, which required a bit of working to fit, didn't want to run into that sort of thing again...

Well I can for sure tell you that they are not a banjo style fitting.

Adam,

After thinking about it, I'm going to spring for the vented rotor set up; due in part to your nice spacer print.

I do all of my shoping at Rock Auto, they're great !

Chris,

Thanks for butting in. Why not make a few extra sets of ss brake lines and sell them to club members for cost plus ? I'm sure if you asked ahead of time you'd get a few orders; me included

Do either of you have detales of the rear disc conversion ?

Many thanks to you both,
Irv

Awesome. I think its a great decision. Please remember to verify the dimensions. I got that print from someone else. I bought my spacer from Silver Mine Motors. I know the spacer is different from 240Z- 280Z

I seem to remember a thickness of the front spacer w/a thickness of .053" and longer bolts.

Hey Irv,

I bought the brake package from you a while back. The spacer you supplied was the thinner one for 280z's. I ended up buying the thicker Silvermine spacer and bolts too. Silvermine is a great vendor to work with.

I ended up getting new S12W calipers from Rockauto too. Rockauto is awesome. I still have the calipers I got from you because I forgot to send them back for the core.
