I need to get my hood hinges beadblasted/sandblasted to clean off several layers of grunge and paint.

My beadblasting source in Wallingford is no longer available. Does anyone know of someone in the New Haven/Bridgeport area who does this?

You could get yourself a small blast unit.
I have one I found on craigslist for $60.
Or American Dry Stripping in Milford does great work.

Didn't think about the acid...I'll remember that.

I got a bottle of this "Evapo-rust" at the last car show, look it up, it sounds good, but I haven't tried it yet. I've used acid many times to clean parts, and can even put a little copper tinge on them if I want. But always looking for a less caustic solution. So I will try this stuff and see.

Evaporust works great as a "non-toxic" and "safe" solution, leaving a little black residue that's not too hard to clean off. Treated parts exposed to air will quickly rust. Berryman chem-dip is a step up and works wonders, stripping any filth and rust over time (made a rusty turbo center section of mine look like a new cast). Also it's very corrosive, so ALL traces need to be washed off treated parts or it WILL corrode them.

I've always lusted after one of those 20gallon parts cleaners which boiled car parts and gun parts in boiling acid and kerosene until they were In-The-White spotless clean.
I also wanted someone else's garage to set it up in!

They had some sort of a turbo-spa underwater circulation jet which swished the parts around, and a flexible gooseneck fountain jet which could be aimed at really cruddy parts. Little steel baskets held tiny parts and kept them from getting lost.

Throw your worst nightmare parts in there and close the cover, come back tmrw and take out your new parts.

Just don't breathe the fumes.

Frank, I'm trying to get rid of all my parts so my tent can harbor work stations like metal cleaning, anodizing, painting and such. So in the future you can bring one over for me. :D
