just figuring out what i need to hook up and what can just be plugged up for my conversion. the coolant line running through the intakes manifolds can that be blocked off? ive seen pictures of the fitting in the back blocked off. does the intake manifold need the coolant running through it? i know on american cars it does but that is because that is where the thermostat housing is located. and i know i need to hook up the brake booster hose and hook up the pcv valve. any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Many people disconnect that hot water tube (carburetor warmer) which runs thru the intake manifold. If you run during the winter you'll miss it, tho. The metal tube which runs around the back of the block, btwn the head and the firewall, can be removed if you're not intending to use the manifold heat tube. The entire hose/pipe can be deleted right at the heater takeoff (in front of the passenger's feet) and routed directly back into the block at that point. The PCV vent can be hooked up directly to the intake manifold, btwn the SUs. Let's see if I can post some pics of how simple it is. |

Franks right, the water lines are there to heat up the manifold faster in cold weather (not cool it), reducing choke time. Informed sources once told me you can pick up a horsepower or 2 by removing it. I ran water lines for years though on my '70 with SUs and finally decided to remove them since I only drive in warm weather. The metal inlets will unscrew from the end of the manifolds, no need to plug the holes. You should use a pipe plug to seal the water inlet on thermostat housing. Easy mod. |
