Post subject:  260z radiator REPLACEMENT

The OEM 260z radiator just won't handle the cooling load of the new 355 SBC. It's just too marginal to trust in mild weather, so I decided now's the time to finish the under hood work so I can get the car "on the road"! The OEM rad. is available .... see parts forum.

New alum. radiator/twin elec. fans installed. Not without some issues.
Had to cut off lower hose connector pipe as it came curved up in front of the back face of the rad. which made it impossible to mount the full fan shroud and twin fans. Had to then tig weld on a straight section to accept hose. Then, guess what, original hose too big for outlet. Had to hunt for a properly bent lower hose with a small dia. end and a big dia. end. Customizing can be a pain and at the same time fun. Got a hose off a JEEP!
Also had to trim upper hose as it was too long with the wider rad. and wanted to kink a bit. Then the overflow tank doesn't fit along side the new wider rad. so have to make some new mounting brackets for it. I'm really pleased with the look of this new installation though, and hope I've put the cooling issues to rest for good.

Ove the next week I'm hoping to have the fuel gauge (lack thereof) issue resolved, my dash lights fixed and the car should be up and ready fot the new season. Man, here it is almost June and I've only put 250 miles on the new engine. The break in oil / filter comes out this week also.
Maybe more time can be spent on the model Z .... unless the weather is good and some club treks come up. Anyway, If I can't get my autometer fuel gauge to function I might be looking for some help because the lack of one is driving me nuts.
