Well, the 305 is out, the engine bay is cleaned and painted matte black
and the new 355 should be going in next week. I'm also painting the inside of the hood gloss black/clear along with the the rad. shroud and shock tower
cross brace. Here are a few pix of the car today with teh old 305, new 355 and 5spd on the floor. It's coming.
Jack

I don't recall if you ever divulged any numbers for that 305 ~ what kind of power was it giving you?

And what do you expect to get from the 355?

Frank,
the 305 was giving 250-260 hp with 300-310 tq. Power dropped off about 4500-4600 and realine was about 5200. Engine ran fine and did a decent propulsion job on this light machine. I don't really like low rpm engines, however, and decided the $/s to recam and make other changes to the 305 to get what I wanted was'nt merited. Instead I opted to spec. out a 4 bolt 350 to give me the base line I wanted with upwards potential. With the unknown rear diff. new 5sp. clutch, drive shaft I speced the engine to be redline capable of 6500 depending on how I chose to let it breath. With current edelbrock 650cfm carb and exhaust, new ceramic coated block hugger headers it'll be in the 320 hp/360 tq range. I used a 9.5 comp. so should still run fine on reg. or 89 gas. I still have a tank size issue to answer.
Also, until I get a feel for brake and diff. capability I thought this would be a "reasonable" starting point. The external body finish is still what I'd call a 10'er but as you state, that's not as much an issue as drivability. I think the renewed engine bay and engine will pretty much depleat current resources (my "controller" just yesterday noted that while I made cost of engine transparent, I had failed to mention R&R and other augmentation costs), oops.
