I spent an hour on the phone yesterday talking to a farmer from South Dakota who called about an old add for my '81 ZX Turbo. He told me about : schafferlubricants.com, the oldest lubricant co. (1839) in the country. He has used their gas and oil additives with fantastic success. He says you have to change your oil filter two weeks after adding an oil "cleaner" additive. This co. comes in first in all competitive oil tests and IS USED EXCLUSIVELY BY NASA. Unfortunately, very few retale oulets. The best I've found is : E & S Auto Parts in Aston, Pa. (610)485-4721

Any modern name brand oil far out-performs the oil originally specified and available for your car. There's lots of advertising puffery out there and some people who are foolish enough to fall for it and even swear by it. If you run modern oil in your car and change it along with the filter every 5k miles, you are treating your motor far far better than it needs. I do suggest that you use a synthetic if you have a turbo, because the synthetics are less prone to coke the turbo bearings if you shut the car down with the turbo still hot.

You're right Frank. But like people, some lubricans are made more equal than others. This guy I talked to was an old "gear head" lke me and many Z club members. He spøke of RESULTS from these lubricants and cleaners. I always use a small packet of MØS2, Molly Sulfide with each oil change. Good stuff.
I'll see if NASSA has a "Customer service" line to check it out.

Has anyone else ever heard of "Schaffer Lubricants (NOT the beer !)
