Thanks in advance,
Irv Rich

Irv, they are ALL awesome, but if you had to split hairs, the 1994 and 1995 models are the ones to look for. By then Nissan had sorted out most of the bugs. The HICAS steering was changed from a hydraulic to an electrical system, much simpler, lighter and more reliable. The earlier models also had minor issues with the BOSE stereo and interior trim. The early models were also known for aluminum brake rotors that warped, changed to cast iron in '93.

In the final year, of the Z32, 1996, in order to make new federal polution control standards, Nissan dropped the variable valve timing on the twin turbo models which resulted in a drop in horsepower to about 280 from the previous 300.

Be warned, it is EXTREMELY difficult to find a twin turbo today that hasn't been beaten to death, highly modified or hacked. Most were driven VERY hard and put away wet. ALso, the twin turbo is a high maintenence lady, so it is important to have a clear service history, especially with the every 60,000 mile $1000+ timing belt service. Watch for steering rack leaks, fuel injector and coil pack issues. The adjustable struts can also be very expensive to replace. The 1990-93 models had a shorter rear deck spoiler that delaminates over time. It was corrected with the larger style found from 1994-96.

Now that I've scared you, let me say that I had a '94 twin turbo that was AWESOME. I will have another someday.

Expect to pay at least $15,000 for a decent one today. A low mileage example can add $10,000 to that.

Irv, may I ask you what your budget is? I spend hours looking at Craigslist. I start from 240z and work my way up to the 300zx almost daily and can send you anything I find. Shoot me an email if need be.

I ran across this one over the weekend. Might be worth having it shipped!

BTW, I just made flight reservations to visit family in LA in April and plan to attend the MSA West Coast Nationals, can't wait. Thought I could buy this twin turbo Z rather then renting a car and driving it home!! I can dream can't I?

Anybody looking for a 300ZX needs to hear the OUTSTANDING presentation given at our meetings by the guyz from RDZ. They have forgotten more about these carz than most of us have learned.

The first year I heard Rich A. give his detailed inspection list of 300ZX concerns, I was shocked and awed. The NEXT year I heard him give it I was amaZed at all the points I had missed the first time.

They haven't decided what the Car of the 20th Century was, yet. But this one will be a very close contender to whatever is eventually choZen.

Our member Phil Wallace, sales manager at Middletown Nissan, worked for nearly 4 years restoring his twin turbo 300zx to the highest standards in time for our annual Z Car Show on the Middletown Nissan lot two years ago. EVERYTHING came out of the car and got restored or replaced.

He finished it the very morning of the show. Somebody came in off the street, lured by the 47 classic Z cars on the lot, and bought his TT that very same day. It wasn't for sale ~ the guy just had to have it and made Phil an offer he couldn't refuse. Phil agreed to sell the car with the proviso that he at least got a chance to blast it up and down the road a few times, which he had never been able to do since owing the car. It had been in restoration since the day he bought it.

Right after the show ended, with the two new turbos and rebuilt EVERYTHING, Phil lit up the rear tires over two horizons. It was like nothing I'd ever seen a Z car do before. What screaming monster cars these ZXs were.

Phil owned the car for about 4 years, and put fewer than 4 miles on it.

Frank

Gentlemen,

Many thanks for all of your suggestions and referals. I bought an "arrest-me-red" / Black leather , 88.5K miles, automatic, one of 707 TTs built in '95.

I want to thank John Taddonio and Chuck Gould for their help in getting info on the car and having it inspected.

I'd post pictures of it but I'm "computer illiterate" !

Many thanks, again,
Irv RichIt's one of nine identical '95s in the national registry

If the snow ever leaves, I can come up and take pictures of it for you, Irv!

Congratulations!
