Al, this sounds like your 4-way switch. Everything (EVERYthing) you mentioned is hooked thru there on the 240s ~ not sure about the 280s.

It's a nightmare best reserved for someone else to do (like a dealer). There are more connections there than you want to wrestle with.

Unsure what's happening to mine. A newly rehabbed combination switch fails to make any changes. Probably something to do with the MSA relays I had installed two years ago.

Frank

Frank

Good to hear from you. Can't imagine lil red at a dealer (Middletown notwithstanding). I'll look for a 4way switch. Could be easy.

Yeah? Wait'll you get it out and zee all the solder connections! :? It's a nightmare.

If you could put it on a bench and solder it from there, it wouldn't be so bad ~ just a tedious series of wires needing to be soldered to specific contacts on the switch. But since the wires are staying where they are, the switch (and your soldering iron) has to go to them.

You're gonna spend some time upside down, soldering UP. Wear your spacesuit. :?

Hopefully it's something else. Remember those guyz whose Z blacked-out in John T's driveway in Rochester? Their problem was something to do with the relays if I recall correctly. They hot-wired it up and it got them back to their hotel. Anyway, their symptoms sound like yours.

ALSO ~ check the 20Amp COMMON fuse before doing anything else, and try the windscreen wipers and horn and tell me if they work?

You need to leave the windscreen wipers out of the equation Frank, Lil Red doesn't sport any...

Pretty booked up until the end of next week. Do you have a wiring diagram for the 280? (most shop manuals have fold-outs) (not centerfolds).

We should be able to work with that.

(The manual!)

Wiring schematic should be in the rear of the book, a fold-out....?

Schematics are all one page, maybe the 280s were fold outs...
After the floor pans I'll let Vinny or RDZ handle the 'lectricks.
Gotta hit the rack, puttin' in 23 hrs in the next 2 daze

Bad contacts in the switch, or just dirty. Bad relay. They make a updated harness for the parking lights, and also Headlights for these reasons. I have both still yet to install.
