Wast just wondering....

what oil weight does everyone use? I have 5W-30 in my car right now. I am reading the owner's manual and it says that 5W-30 should be used when ambient is below 60F.

I am wondering if I should switch over to 10W-30 (optimal when ambient is >0F). I don't think it gets down to 0F in New Haven.... might get close. If it's 0F I won't be driving it anyway!

Thoughts?

Im using Shell 10W-30 and it works just fine, no dripping. I have drove 1200 miles this summer (in various temps) and had not added a single drop of oil. Local mechanics say that thicker the better to older engines. Of course my z is a bit older than yours.

What I learned last year is that it's important not to use synthetic oil in my (old) 240Z. It might be fine for the V6 engine, but it will find any and every possible leak anywhere on the L24 engine.

I dumped a 200 mile crankcase full of Mobil 1 ($$$) and replaced it with Valvoline VR1 racing oil, and every leak stopped immediately.

I use Kendall GT-1 5W-30. I put almost 2k miles on my car since I put it in and have had no problems or leaks...at least no oil leaks that is.

Valvoline VR-1, 10w-30 (L28). They even make a VR-1 synthetic now, which I never noticed before. Old motors like lots of zinc phosphate.

Thanks! I think I am going to switch over to 10W-30 for the next oil change (conventional of course).
