 Post subject: Factory original coil?

Well I'm replacing my ignitin coil. I took the old one out and it has a blue paint dot on the top. Was that something they did from the factory? Also I managed to clean some rust off and can see some of the part number. It ends with 280. This is something I thought the factory did too, parts ending with the model number. Any thoughts?

I've seen coils with different color paint dots on them thru the years (different car makes). I never knew why they did that, and assumed it was an inventory plan to help keep coils in order by make/model.

But that's a guess.

well the new coil came from Rockauto in a dusty box. looks like an NOS japanese part. same blue dot. maybe it indicates original japanese part.

The blue dot is a result of the application of blue paint.
