can you tell which ratio diff. by code stamped on case ...
ie T86 ? Just installed new tremec 5 spd. / drive shaft / clutch and
slave cyl. Do you need to count teeth to tell or is there an identification
code somewhere. My saginaw 4 spd. was geared way wrong, had no top
end (SBC V8) hybrid. I'll be able to drive next week when clutch install is
complete. Jack

The diff. ratio is stamped on the Ring Gear. There will be TWO numbers stamped there - divide one by the other. No way to tell from the case.

FWIW,
Carl B.

Thanks Carl. I was afraid of that cause everything is back together.
I'll just have to see how the new tranny and rear work out.

Also of potential interest, we've installed a slave cylinder which is
a real cool VW adjustable unit. The one on the car was from a "Z"
aftermarket supplier and just didn't have a long enough throw.
I'll find out the specifics on the VW slave next week if anyone's
interested. The idea came from someone who raced off road trucks
and dune buggies.
