Im operating on the struts, new exel-G's are on the way BUT now i run into serious problem. It seems that the spindle bolt locking nut is a tough one and guys in classiczcars.com recommended that i should remove the whole assembly.

Problem is that the assembly is atttached to front differential mount.
So how can i remove the control arm without dropping the differential?

The spindle pin removal is indeed one of the toughest things you will encounter when working on a car. I remove mine with a slide hammer with a claw....Autozone loans this tool for free. You have to remove the wedge bolt in the middle of the pin, then the nut on the forward end of the pin. The nut on the rear end of the pin is removed and a couple large, thick washers are put on, then the nut goes back on. Then soak the thing down with penetrating oil and spin the pin with a pneumatic impact wrench on the nut for a few minutes. Then put the slide hammer on the washers and pull it out. If it gets stuck, take the hammer off and spin the pin for a few more minutes and then keep pulling. Eventually you will work it all the way out, at which point you can congratulate yourself for accomplishing a z-car mechanic's rite of passage. The job can be made more pleasant with the proper application of special "spindle pin removal lubricant", which comes in a bottle with a picture of a sailing ship on it.

I did it the easy way, loosened the front differential mount enough to slide the control arm out.

Now the gland nut is only obstacle. Seems like i need a bigger wrench...

Wrench? - No

A good penetrating oil {Kroil from Kano Labs}
and then
You need a large set of Channel Lock Pliers.

A must have for every tool box.

FWIW,
Carl B.

Well the new strut is a pressurized gas strut, the old strut is a liquid-filled non-pressurized type....even when new it didn't pop out like the new style.

New struts on place, first one took about 4 hours, second 2 hours. There was a lot of newbie hassling but luckily it all went well  2 weeks for the big show, 1:st of May drive. Biggest in whole year... thousands of people gather to watch when old cars drive in police escort trough the city.. :P

We remember that from last year. Be sure to display your front plate during the parade this time!

haha, yeah i have "classic" plates on now, much shorter and neat looking. This time the route will be different and longer (which is nice!) but 1/4th of it is still that "ye olde style cobbled street" which drops me teeths. True test for the new struts!

Car seemed to lift up a little, i dont mind that though. Maybe its time for a bigger rear wheels? I wonder how big tires (14") would fit in?

Carl, I know you love Kroil, but have you tried CRC's "Freezeoff" ??

The CRC guy came to the shop about the time I needed to remove a Z31 crankshaft T-belt drive gear (which had resisted all attempts to be removed).

Only seconds after a generous spray on the gear in general, it literally slid off!

I just tried it on a clutch/brake pedal pivot shaft (non-Z car app) which was rusted solid. Both pedals were rock solid. (I had "stepped" on them as hard as I could and neither pedal budged)

It took the entire can, but both pedals are now operating correctly.

This stuff is truly a miracle in a can.
