IMO, to the best of my knowledge I would go with the Megasquirt, using the best choices of sensors for the megasquirt. The Z computer system was not all that, no matter what little swaps you do. I'm going by hearsay, but you might get a better answere on Hybrid Z. Phil is right on the system being very identical. (the 82-83 dizzy has been prone to failure, compared to 81.) My big question is, if you have the engine with all it's sensors, and the wire harness with the computer, what's there to look at....plug and play. The Haynes manuel should be all you need. There is a supplement in there. If not for the engine, then should be the same, except no resistor plugs on the harness.

you can get 265hp to the wheels on a stock ecu and injectors. this comes from Dave. his original set up is exactly what i was looking for without upgrading the fuel management.

I figured someone would mention MegaSquirt and ask why I wasn't going that way. I picked up the parts needed for the 300zx upgrade fairly inexpensively and can be resold if I eventually go a different route in the future. Some of the mods required are in common with the MS upgrade. Not sure if I'm ready to spend $300-400 for the MS ECU, whether I have the soldering "patience" to assemble one and then have to deal with the re-wiring .... just yet.

in all seriousness those are dynoed numbers from Dave C. his first initial setup using the stock ecu and injectors. so really unless you are looking to push up the 300 range then i really see no need to upgrade fuel management. and as we all know anything around 250 to the wheels on a little 280z is just fine. :D
