A pal is transplanting a 1981 280ZXT L28ET into his '77. He is in need of the wiring diagram for the car.

It seems that the 1982 and 1983 wiring is different from the '81.....

Anyone got one or have a lead on where it can be found? Xenon's site does not have it.

HELP!

I have hardcopies of the 81 280zx FSM and 280zxt supplement manuals. What was he looking for? Not sure if the turbo supplement comes with the electrical diagram, but I know the full FSM does have the pull out, full color version. I think I also have a "real" PDF copy of the FSM, not the copied version that Xenon has. I'll check when I get home later tonight.

Here is Bob's request ver batim:

"I'm continuing to learn more about the turbo swap that I am about to start. Several websites have pdf's of sections of the shop manuals etc. I have not been able to find a copy of the 1981 zxt ECCS (ECU) wiring diagram. I have the circuit diagram and most other Nissan material. I have the 1982/1983 version of the wiring diagram which is different from 1981. Would you please send out a request for a pdf of: 1981 zx turbo ECCS (ECU) wiring diagram."

Yes, using the factory computer and wire harness from the '81. Let me know what you turn up. Thanks.....

I'll look tonight John.

I'm curious to know how much is actually different between the model years. The turbo ECCS system was new for the 81.5 turbo when they were introduced. I find it hard to believe that they would have made large scale changes to a "new" wiring design within 6 months of its initial introduction.

I know the CAS on the 81 280zxt is on the crank and was moved to the distributor in 82. They used the same plug though and the computer signal is the same, heck, I'm running an 82 turbo ECU in my 81 turbo. Another change was to move the dropping resistors for the injectors into the ECU in 82. The 81.5 models have an external resistor pack. Other then that I thought they were pretty much identical.

Tell everybody what a CAS is, and does?
(It's a technical discussion forum!)

Sorry, CAS => Crank Angle Sensor. The input from this sensor is used by the computer to determine when to fire injectors, etc. I'll have to do a little more research to give you a conclusive answer Frank.

The 81.5 280zxt has the CAS on the crank. There's a magnetic sensor that detects a marker on the crank pulley as it's turning. For 82 / 83 models, the CAS was moved to an optical wheel in the distributor. Same output, same wiring harness plug.

FYI. I'm about to swap in an 82 280zxt distributor in my Z. The 82/83 distributor CAS with the addition of a 300zx optical disk will provide a more precise signal which I will need for the 300zx ECU which I will be installing next!! This also requires swapping out the distributor /oil pump shaft to the 82/83 version. Then the Air Flow Meter can be replaced with a much less restrictive 300zx MAF..... but I digress...

John / Bob,

The 81 turbo supplement FSM does have a full color fold out electrical diagram (2 fold out pages, each containing 4 pages). I did not have a chance to scan it this evening, but I should be able to get to it tomorrow night.
