ok so i replaced the blower motor and nothing. so that leads me to the switch. is there a way to bypass the switch? will cleaning the switch cure the problem?

assuming you are talking about your 280....usually when these go bad it's not the switch, but rather the coils of wire that the switch diverts the power through to give you different motor speeds.Here's a link to a picture of the setup on a post I did in zcar.com a couple years ago.

My picture is of the blower from a 240 but the 280 is similar.
