Well I'm assuming my brake light switch broke. The brake lights are on but I'm off the pedal. I unplugged the switch for now.

Which Z? (Remember, now that you're a two Z owner, you have to specify what's going on with which car  )

Your pedal is adjustable. Try turning the screw (10mm, I recall?) to let the pedal rise a bit. Play with the switch on the pedal box and see if you can isolate the problem.

Also watch and listen to the pedal rod as you work the pedal, to ensure it's moving. If you have a hung brake caliper piston it might let the pedal hang lower than normal, activating the switch. Check your master cylinder reservoir to make sure it's topped off.

If none of that works, your Z is dead and you should sell it to me immediately.

i put the new switch in but discovered the real problem. no rubber stopper. it must have popped out or something. so using the rubber pulled from my 300zx's tire from the glen i shoved that in the hole and made a temporary stopper. so where do i get the real deal?

Use a nut and bolt. Adjust to fit the switch. Works fine and lasts forever.
