Sooooooooooooooo......

I know I haven't been on here much, and that is due to actually making an earnest effort to get the Z running.

Whilst going through the wiring harness (and the wiring diagram) I noticed there is a floor temp light and sensor...

.....What is the point of it? Do the floors really get that hot? Also, my 78 is autotragic, while my last 78 (a 2/2) was stick and I don't remember the 2/2 having that light as well. Am I just delusional?

Just a guess, but I would think it was for catalytic carz. Might give you a moment's notice if it was about to approach kindling temperature?
The early S30 carz didn't have that light, and didn't need it.

The floor temp light was for CALIFORNIA Z cars (only) 1975-78. As Frank says, they had catalytic converters that got VERY hot and easily radiated though the relatively thin 280Z floor pans.

....Wonder how many Zs "flashed off" because of that over the years....

the big hazard was when people parked the car on flammable surfaces....like in a pile of dry leaves. This was not a feature unique to z-cars or California cars; I had an old Pontiac station wagon that had that sensor.

It WAS a unique feature on the 280Z, only the California cars had it. There were two unique 280Z standards back then, FEDERAL and CALIFORNIA builds. The difference was the catalytic concerter and relayed high temp warning light. In fact if you read the service and owners manual, it makes specific reference.

Find a non-California climate control panel and you'll find the light simply blocked out. I grabbed the one out of Chick's JY when my cat went "missing". Easily popped out to facilitate just about any other type of aftermarket idiot light you so desire.

Indeed Frank, I do

While I have people here, what is the difference between the A11-601000 and the A11-600000 ECUs?

I have the A11-601 and my car is auto transmission, so if the ECU ends up being the cause of the injectors not getting signal, I will need another one. Is it like the 240SXs where you can run a manual ECU in an Automatic trans car?

California 280z's and non-California 280z's used different ECU's. Make sure you use the California ECU if that's what your Z is, otherwise it could end up frying the ECU due to the differing pin layout.

I don't think there was a difference between the automatic trans ECU and the manual. There were additional switches/relays in the auto for a neutral safety interlock, but I've never worked on an auto so I can't tell you for certain. All I know are bits of info I came across in the factory manuals while troubleshooting my own electrical systems.

By the way, I have at least 3 280z ECU's and one of them is from my Z, a standard trans California model.
