Pretty basic but thought it might be interesting:What plugs (brand,#) are you running in what kind of set-up(engine size,n/a or not,etc) and why?

NGK BP5ES for my 1970 240Z, exclusively. Manual calls for BP6ES but my car has never liked them. Always preferred the 5ES, for some reason.

Bosch is next best, followed by Nippon Densu.

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER use Champions in an L24 stock engine, except to teach yrslf an evil lesson. :evil:

Nippon Denso's are the originals, followed by NGK, and I would never use Bosh. Of course by now, anything new would work for you. :wink:

i forgot what i put in the 280 but it was a new performance plug. i had NGK's before that and Champions before that because i didn't know better :lol:

and i actually loved the Bosch platinum 4's for my 83 turbo i use to have.

Do you know better now, Mike?

There's no doubt that Champions work fine in other cars. Races have been won using them. But they just don't do well in the Z L-series engines, for some reason.

I've probably tried them all, over the years. I have nothing against Bosch and Nippon Densus work fine, too. But like John says ~ NGK, period.

yes i do Frank. i have learned so much thanks to all of you. and yeah if you own a JDM ride you should use NGK's from what i understand. but i am willing to try anything once. :D

When I mentioned tonite that lil red waz cutting out at 5k rpm,you mentioned yourz waz doing same. Changed to new BP6ES-11 at the meeting and romped to 6k at will allll the way home. I'm just sayin'

In the Bob Sharp service dept. we always recommended the BP5-ES
plugs to replace the 6's in the 240Zs. Memory fades, but I think the
reason was that they were a shade hotter or something. All I know is
that they worked well, and I used them in the 06289 car to good effect.

Consequently I'm a little perplexed about the BP6ES-11s working
better in Li'l Red, unless the "-11" indicates something I don't know
about. Oh, right, I forgot: Li'l Red has an L-28 which has lower
compression. Maybe that has something to do with it, vis-a-vis the L-24.

Thanks to the RDZ guyZ for being such terrific hosts. Also to Bob Sharp
for sharing his stories and insights into Z things and racing things. It
was great to meet Mrs. and Miss Slater, whom I didn't know back in
the day. But as Bob said, they sure did have a great husband and dad!

Great to see y'all, let'Z do it again soon. Monthly iZn't enough.

For what its worth:

I've used the BP6ES-11 since the early '80s, I was told at a Nissan parts counter back then that the -11 meant it was "cleaner burning" and for "emissions"...whatever that means. The -11 showed up on the later motors with electronic ignitions which is a clue.

The Z Doctor in Roanoke once told that the BP6ES series was 'almost' too cold for the street when I wanted to drop to a colder plug...in other words he considered the 6 fine for modified L-series motors.

I've used NGKs in race cars and street crs since '63. Originally it was because they had a coper electrode and a wider heat range per plug. Don't know if that's still true. Also, I thought Nipon Denso might be owned by NGK. Don't know if tat's true either.

I think Nippon Denso was a joint conversion of NGK and Toyota. I have never tried to get Nippon Denso spark plugs, (have seen them before,) and just as good I'm sure. NGK's are just easy to get, and all I would use. "Period" :D (even in American cars I use them)
