I don't know if anyone is considering this kit for their S30 but here are some shots from my partial install work this past weekend. I've also bought the 6-1 header from MSA, this is the version of the kit for that header. If you go with the 3-2 header, the kit supplies a 2-1 collector but the back-end is the same.

Here is the kit I received, very nicely done. All new hangers are supplied, one is pre-installed on the S-pipe. Your existing stock mounting bolts for the hangers will be re-used.



A thread on Classic Z showed a PDF of a Duramax diagram that designated the offset pipe as the inlet. Here is the result of going that route, not very pretty!





I noticed that with this arrangement, the Duramax stamping on the muffler was upside-down and that also did not look quite right.

Other comments on Classic Z went with the center pipe for the inlet so I swapped ends on the muffler with much better results.





I tilted the top of the muffler outboard about 30 degrees for a perfect fit into the curve of the fender. The mid-pipe will go on after the engine is installed and the driveshaft is in place.

It is about 1/2" shy of the bumper vertical line, and could be adjusted some if I pulled the tip back out of the muffler tube (it fits inside).

No, you want it shy of or even with the bumper, so it doesn't slash or burn you as you walk past.

I have the EXACT same system on my 240Z with the 6-1 header. I too was able to tuck the muffler up into the rear cavity, making a nice stealthy look. I had a little bit of an issue with the front flanges mating perfectly. The angles were slightly off and I had to push the exhaust system up under the diff with a jack, to get it to all line up against the bottom of the car neatly. Once it was up and bolted, it was fine. It does want to spring back down but the hangers keep it up nice and tight.

It definitely sounds louder than it looks. IMHO.

I am considering adding a flex section right after the header to reduce stress on the header gasket and studs. I am also considering adding a glasspack "bullet" style resonator in the system somewhere under the floorpan. I think it's slightly too loud for my neighborhood. Especially when my foot gets into the Webers a bit..

Hey Dave!

So, what did you do differently from Jim, that the tailpipe extension
on your car should set so much higher into the recess in the rear
apron than his does?

All I can think of is shorter brackets and/or straps, but what do I know?

Getting the muffler to tuck up in there is a nice touch, I thought I was the only one, but good to see great minds think alike.....of course I have duel exhaust running back most of the way, then "Y" 'd in to a 3" outlet with 3" muffler. The only thing I would would change is have it more to the side of the diff. like yours. Nice job, and nice color, looking good.

Rick, the car jack will tuck the exhaust tightly against the bottom of the car as you tighten the hangers.
