Today my Z started to cough, black smoke, it got no gas. :(
I managed it to drive the car home.
I opened the hood, I saw gas dripping down.
I opened the air filter casing, there was gas in
the air filter box and might be there is gas in
the exhaust system.
I think it's a rear carburetor, the one next to the
bulkhead.
Marco will have a look at it tomorrow.
Did one of you ever had a problem like this?

First thought....I would clean all the gas out then turn the bottom screws up a few notches to see if your overfilling the float bowls. (or all the way, then 3 turns down.) Unless something got stuck, or sedimate build up on the bottom of the float bowls.

Also check to see if your choke is stuck, and be sure to open the Winter/Summer vent on the neck of the air intake box. (Little metal lever at the neck of the air filter box).

Lots of early Z owners drive their 240s in the cold autumn, so they close the vent on the air intake. Then they park them for the winter. In the warm Spring they start their Z and forget to open the vent again.

You can pull all 6 spark plugs and see if the rear 3 are dirtier than the front 3. That tells you the rear SU is too rich (too much benzine, not enough air).

Only fix one thing at a time. If the first action fixes the problem, STOP. Don't change the mixture setting until last, and only if the other actions don't fix the problem.

Great thanks to our member (and ace Z mechanic) Vinny Bedini, who gave us a rapid telephonic diagnosis of a sunken carburetor float, and simple instructions on how to fix it!

Ya gotta love this Club! :D

As I understand, your carburetor is leaking. If that is the case, I suggest you get new nikki carburetor rebuild kit to fix the problem.
