I've changed the manifold seal at my Z. It sounds more quiet (in front) and sometimes it starts to whistle and murmur... Nice and normal?

Normal Zs do NOT whistle and murmur. Your Z has psychological problems. Take your Z to a psychologist right away.

perhaps the z is fine and you are the crazy one?

Whistling is a sure sign of a small manifold leak. You may have a crack in the manifold or it may be warped.

Or not tightened properly. I feel stupid asking a German if he torqued the bolts correctly, but Thor, did you torque the bolts correctly?

And what song does it whistle? And what language does it murmur in?

A leaking exhaust gasket will usually sound like a "TICK-TICK-TICK". Be sure your whistle isn't coming from another source, such as the airpump or belts or cooling system hoses or vacuum lines or water pump.

Use the "Beethoven" trick to locate the actual source of the noise(s). Place a long screwdriver or metal rod against your ear, then slowly (and carefully) 'feel' around the engine for the noises you hear. Be careful of the moving fan and belts, please!

Sometimes you need to retorque the fasteners after they go through a few heat cycles.

RIGHT!

Vinny does that. After replacing a head gasket or intake/exhaust gasket, he runs the engine (without coolant!) until it *JUST* reaches a certain temperature he can judge by feeling with his hand, then re-tightens everything again.

Be careful not to break any studs, tho ~ that's a time-consuming nightmare to replace them. Not hard, but time consuming.

Frank

Thor, did you locate the reason for the noises?
